5x6's. if you have the mach system, you can not run aftermarket speakers with them. as far as brand, thats a personal preference.

5x7 is the usual size for Fords. Also 6x8 fits. Ive never heard of a 5x6 speaker but mine are 6x8 and that is the perfect fit. As for brand, I'm a fan of Rockford Fosgate personally. And don't forget to upgrade the head unit. The factory one just cant put out enough power to aftermarket speakers, a new head unit will make even factory speakers sound better.

Well the best is definitely up to personal preferences. Anyway, if nothing else, get 2 ways speakers. 3 way and 4 way speakers sound awful in my opinion. You can check crutchfield for detailed specs. You can put aftermarket speakers with the factory head unit, but I wouldn't advise it unless you're running an amp to them as well. You can pick up a quality head unit (from Pioneer or the like) for about 100 bucks or so with free install from best buy. Aftermarket units pump out more power, typically 25w per 4 channels so the sound quality is much better. And currently I'm running a dual cd player that i bought at best buy..Of course it was also clearanced so it was like 50 dollars...
