Help With A Custom Sub Box
Hey guys, I am thinking adding 2 10" kicker L5's in the back of the stang, but all the sub boxes i see on ebay and what not, require you to remove or move the mach amps, is there anywhere that sells boxes that fit WITH the mach system? And also, how hard would the build be if me and some buddies did it, anyone know any good tips and what not? Thanks guys

if you are looking to go ported then you will need a custom box cause if I remember right the L5's require alot of air space. whatever you do, make your own or buy, just make sure that the box meets the interior volume (air space) of the speakers. generally speaking you can go about +/- 5% of the total air space required.

+1, and definatley go ported box. You can buy boxes on ebay specifically for mustangs with the mach system, but most of them aren't ported.

i personaly like sealed enclosures, but thats just the type of bass i like tighter bass lower frequencies, but yea i believe the 10 L5 requires about a cubic foot for sealed and like 1.75 to 2.25 for vented, and building a box is not too complicated especially sealed, vented you got be very precise with the port or it will sound like shit, checkout 12volt.com i think there is a step by step

yeah building your own ported box is not that hard at all.
all it takes is some measurments inside the car, then find the tuning frequency, and guess and check with a port calculator. i used this one RE Enclosure Calculator it couldnt be easier it even tells you all the board sizes to cut. mine sounds great with my kicker cvr10. if you tune it low, around 30-34hz, it will be more sound quality oriented. but if you want to be super loud competition style bass tune it around 45hz |

i like the way it sounds man, i have a L7 12" in my explorer and it rattles my brain big time lol but i love the way my mustang sounds, has a nice hit to it, and it doesnt rattle my truck to hell
![]() you can see how i have it sideways, maybe thats why it doesnt rattle everything? but to update this thread, i actually sold 1 of the 10's, i may end up selling the other L5 and doing something custom with this 12. but i do like how i at least have some trunk space!

it's not that hard to build a custom box. the shape of the box isn't as important as making sure it's gonna accommodate the needed airspace for your subs. if you've got any kind of skill with power tools and are somewhat "handy" you could probably knock it out over a few hours on a saturday. if you decide to go ported, it'll be a little more involved. good luck with it, hatever you decide to do. and if you build, be sure to post pics.
