And Wine Country AutoX season starts...

ESCA *finally* had their opening autocross this weekend.

Met up with Jazzer on site, got to check out his car and all the fantastic suspension I hope one day to be able to afford.

Course FTD was a low 42 (set non-Z06 C5 'vette), I was pretty wild (out of practice and way excited), was pulling 45s hitting 2-3 cones or 46s hitting 1-2, which put my time after penalties (47s and 48s) on par with the pack of Miatas present (though they were considerably less cone happy, hahaha). My best time with penalties was a 46.9.

Felt my throttle control and braking was decent, but my hands were ALL over the place and it messing with my line.

Jazzer got to feel the full brunt of a 4v in anger, follwed quickly by too much speed into a decreasing radius corner where that anger was vented into a whole line of cones (official count was only 4, but I heard from the corner worker I managed to launch one cone and take out 2 more with it )

R-compounds are definitely worth the 2-3 seconds that people say, and if you have stock seats and seatbelts, a CG-Lock is invaluable. I wasn't sliding around AT ALL, compared to last season where I would develop cramps in my left leg from pinning the dead pedal.

I'll let Jaz fill you in on his experience, I wouldn't want to steal his thunder, lol.

If anyone else is in the WayNorth Bay and wants to give it a shot, let me know! Next event is 5/30, just PM me if you're interested.

Yup, was a blast and just amazing how quickly The Rev goes from 0 to "Oh, God please help me I am going to DIE!" to 0 again. At this point I found some, uh.... *cough, cough* "issues"... the above mentioned has with traffic cones . I have done some math and it would seem The Good Reverend + =

Even with 7 penalty seconds, he was STILL faster than me by 2 or 3 I will be joining up with the ESCA this week, so will have to see if I can "develop" the same issues with those cute little cones. I will say that one of them was givin' me the SERIOUS harry eyeball on the way out yesterday and was mocked by several on the way out of town... lil' bastards

All in all was a complete blast and need to "get up to speed" with my Sunday driving at the autoX course . I don't think I ever even broke traction, but maybe a bit of lateral crawling around a couple sweeping turns. I was pushing harder than I ever have and NEVER felt like I would loose it. I guess this means I need to wear my cement tennies next time 'round

Jazzer needin' more with less

The above explains why he HATED The Coneheads on SNL

I wish I could autoX, but my v6 is slow and the suspensions sucks.

^ come on out anyway

There are always rides that are competely stock and just go for the fun of driving fast, dodgin' cones and meeting good pepes.

Well I'm not completely stock but, I'll have to wait until after summer to do anything with the car. I'll be in living in Hawaii all summer so the car will be sitting at home missing me.

Not to nitpick, but those were fastest runs, not average. In autocross, it's only your best run that counts

Don't worry about it. I'm still running on stock suspension (okay, not entirely true, but I did run the car that way 1.5 seasons, and I still have 100% stock springs and geometry), and extra power is just a liability. Honestly, I'd probably be faster in an S197 sixxer than my SN95 Cobra, and if the '11s go to the ecoboost motor, I might trade mine in.

Ah, your right

Read the wrong column, so that WAS my best time. My average was 53:135 and fastest average was 46:904 (I think I am reading it correctly). His average was a bit high due to hitting some cones. I didn't hit too many cones, but the I always drive safe on Sundays
