ESCA Auto-X 6-18-11

Was a nice day, but got a bit sunburned

Only had 5 runs this day, but were two-laps each, so allows a bit more rhythm to get going. The first vid here, was my 2nd run and feelin' my oats at about the :55 mark, but feelin' pot holes at about :59 First time I have ever gone off-course, but likely not the last

My first run was also a DNF, as I missed the last gate LOTS of people did the exact same thing and missed it a 3rd time as well. Finally got a clean one on my last two runs:

The top time was 69.175 and put me in 25th of 59 cars.

He's on R888s. I keep telling him to go to RA1s, but he swears up and down he can't get 'em in the sizes he's running.

I was 27th that day, and just shy of 4 tenths behind Jazzer. My car was pushing in the sweepers if I got on the gas at all, heh. Time for a smaller front swaybar... that stock GT piece is HUGE, hahaha!

I haven't edited my videos down. New GoPro is definitely nice, though.

One thing that sucks about being a photographer is you never get pics of your own car on track, hahaha.

Here's a couple I snagged of Jazzer.

If I could get my sizes in the RA-1's, I would do so-fo-sho

I am going to call up John G. today and get myself a new set of properly-rated rear springs to get started. I may also be shy on caster, so will check that out as well. But, looking at the second pic above from The Good Reverend, as well as my sig, one can see the transfer of weight to the outside front wheel and no matter what I got going on up there.... I am gonna get plow.

I am going to miss my "cushy" ride, but my car should have no issues carrying the speed of which I was asking at the point of going off-course. No doubt my skilz was not up to par entering that turn, but just the slightest too much throttle and the ass end digs in like it has teeth.

Jazzer

EDIT: Looking at the vids again, I am still "fighting" a smooth transition between braking and throttle upon exit

Nice runs, I wish they would invent teleportation big enough for my car and myself so I could come to some of these other events. That looked like it would have been a fun course to run!

The 10th of July is so far away! Videos looked good and fun though!

Ahh we hate ra1s!!! We have 16 sitting in the shop from dads car that i get to use for schooling because we are allowed to use hoosiers finaly. Thats he way to go. We are running hoosier r6 and going to mid ohio for testing it tommoro to see how much better. From what all the other ai guys say is hoosiers knock off 2 to 3 seconds of lap time compared to ra1s. Also you may have issues finding hem they were out of stock for 3 months this winter

I would love to run a set of Hoosiers, Avons or somthing, but not willing to purchase as THIRD set of wheels in order to run them for only HPDE days I run the R888's all Summer and just swap out my Winter wheels between late October~March. If I had more storage space..... I would

I got a question about the camera setup. How did you mount it? Double sided 3M tape on the dash? I would love to do that for when I my first ever run on the 10th.

Nope. The GoPro comes in (at least) two different flavors: a helmet cam and a car cam. They're exactly the same other than the mounting equipment you get with the camera. I have the car version, and it comes with a serious grip of different mounts and adapters. I just use the suction cup it comes with, it was supposedly tested on either an F16 or F18, and I've NEVER seen one come off a car.

For the next event I'm gonna make a more permanent mount on my rollbar. With the arm-length of the mount I'm currently using, vibration translates into a lot of camera motion. I'd like to get it down to something much shorter, I think I can get it down to about 1/4 of the arm length I've got currently.

I checked out the gopro site and that's a pretty nice camera. And then I found this:

What’s Included:
3 Flat, 3M™ Adhesive Mounts
2 Curved, 3M™ Adhesive Mounts

Heh, I will just go with the 3M tape for mine. My 3 year old 5 MP 1080p Canon is pretty much comparable to the gopro, but def isn't waterproof.

That list of mounts they have is impressive though. My camera has a standard tripod screw in thingy on the bottom of the camera, I'll have to see if any of their mounts are compatible.

Money is tight right now, otherwise I'd just buy a gopro and be done with it. My Canon can record video, but is it's a dSLR that can also record video. I'd love to have a more dedicated digital video camera.

The gopro mounts don't use a standard tripod screw... But you might be able yo find an adapter between that and what they do use.
