NCRSCCA Sounds of Freedom 24 July

Only showing 3 of the six runs, my first, second (best run) and fourth where i found out what it looks like looking at the course in reverse. All in all, fast and fun course.

Questions:

1. Should i have shifted into third? You can see and hear in at least 2 of the videos how high in the RPM band i was. Would there had been a benefit?

2. Tire recommendations. I know Kuhmo XSs are good but what are some good AutoX only tires. I am thinking about grabbing my stockers and using those for track rims. Either that or the other thing i am thinking about. As it got hotter, traction became worse. Should i invest in a spray canister with water to cool off the tires between runs? The 05s hooked decent on the first 2 runs but after that it just kept getting worse. Could also be the fact it was almost 100 degrees out.

AAR notes:

Goods: Had fun, learned how to handle at a high speed course, got more experience

Bad: Need better tires, focus on hitting marks, need torsen diff and torque arm.

Stockers = Heavy = Bad. Find a set of cheap light wheels (Motegi makes some inexpensive light weight wheels in the 150-200$ per wheel range) and mount some Hoosier A6's if you want stickier tires. Those are very much what EVERYONE runs when they run on race tires. For street tires, the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs or whatever they are are considered one of, if not the best street tire to have. Tons of guys in the Street Tire class here run the Direzza Star Specs on as wide of wheel that will fit in the wheel wells.

I like the course, it looks like it'd be fun. As for shifting, you probably could have towards the end then down shifted again before the last chicane (where you spun in the last video). I'm not sure it would have helped much times wise. Generally if you have time to shift, you are pretty much already breaking for the next corner. This course was fast, VERY fast in comparison to most AutoX courses. Did the person who design this course drive a Ford Explorer or something?

Ask Reverend about tire heat. I'm not sure it matters that much. I ran my tires today for four runs without touching them temperature wise or pressure wise.

i might try to run something like toyo ra1s if you buy aftermarket wheels to run only at the track. we run them shaved. you may also look into hoosier r1's or a6's i believe you need to heat the hoosiers before you run or you wont get the correct grip out of them. from what i heard with the a6's the car will break before the car breaks loose. i want to lighten the rear a little and make it rotate instead of push.
looks like fun though
