Must have been taken at nationals. J. Doctor is a local here in Nebraska and the orange fence of doom is present. Great photo though

You totaly want to! I started last year with a few events to get my feet wet, and I could not go to enough this year. It is very fun, IMHO the most fun you can have with your car while knowing that you will be able to drive it home. I am fortunate with so many clubs around me so I can pretty much go to an event every weekend from April to October. Take a peak here to find a club, just do a few google searches and you should be able to find one reachable, they are out there:North America Autocross Club List index

yep the only 2 downfalls to roadcourse over autox is you are much harder on youre motor. mine never goes below 4k rpms and it hits the rev limiter usually 2 times a lap. also use the engine for breaking so very rarely it will go over 6200. stock motor at that for an hour and 20 minutes of hard ass driving.
then the other thing with roadcourse is you dont hit cones you hit concrete! youre not driving home after hitting a wall at 50 mph (happened to one of my instructors.)
but i dont have any experience to compare to autox on the level of fun. maybe next year i will.

^^^ I find that roadcourse is MUCH harder on brakes. My stock '94 V6 brakes with cheap-ass Autozone pads are fine for AX, they'd start to go soft after a single lap up at Thunderhill.

Yeah, I stay away from any brake pad that has any sort of long-life warranty, double-especially "lifetime" warranty pads.

They're just hard as a rock and eat rotors.

actually the cmax gold ceramics are kinda soft and grab nice. i finished the last trackday with less than a quarter wear. i had to bring the car to autozone on the saturday nite and pull the steaming breaks apart in 8 mins before the store closed. lets just say i had it back on the road before they locked the doors. gf went in and did the pad swap and i was rocking the battery impact and aluminum floor jack. i love how easy cobra calipers are to change pads. i actually overheated my gt calipers and made them expand. the napa guy was like wtf happened to these. well youre calipers locked up in a bad spot....
btw dot four and new break lines are awsome way to help with the squish. also the braided brake lines. im not dumping any more into my car. waiting on a built racecar.

All of this on Mid Ohio right? I can safely say, that I have very LITTLE desire to race at Mid Ohio, EVER. I downloaded the track for Race 07 (My racing simulator) after hearing about the infamous turn after the long straight, and I've concluded that I can't drive that track in any vehicle. Too many off camber turns at the tops of hills that make for some straight-to-the-wall action. I really need to drive the track without going so fast. Difficult course to run!

I'm glad that a.) Mid America Motorplex is up and running again, and b.) that Race07 has Mid America Motorplex as a downloadable track! Lots of practice with the racing lines without ever setting foot on the track. Now I just need to find someone willing to build me an S197 model. I have the Saleen Cup and the Mustang Challenge Mustangs for the game, but they are all FR500S not a standard S197.

Anyway, I agree, roadcourse is hard on both the motor and the brakes. Some brake cooling goes a long way to saving rotors and pads but it's not a fix. Good pads just don't last and are not really designed to. Autocross is really hard on tires and suspension bushings. The constant thrashing about can be hard on the driver's knees too without a harness...

I just wish you got more autocross runs per day. That is the major downfall. I can pay $125 for basically 9-5 racing at Mid America on a Fast Friday deal. Add in gas (and tires and brakes), to get the same time in AutoX requires a HUGE number of autocross events, money, and of course spending time picking up cones. Do I hate Autocross? Heck no, it's the greatest jump start to racing ever. No better place to find the limits of the car and find them quick and all that. It's just really strange when you compare $ vs time spent in the seat, even time spent at the limit.

I'm just sad that the last autocross until April is this weekend. =(

Come up here and ill teach you the line. ill see if i can put down a few laps on rfactor. The sims dont do the track any justice in all honesty unless youre pushing a little miata in the sim.
Ive ran at putnam park and its rough to drive on but the sim doesnt show the marks. And mid ohio thry dont have the dip in the carocel either.

The most I have ever done with the Nebraska Region was 6 but the average is 4 runs per day. I've done 7 with the Iowa Region at oskaloosa. It seems 6 is average for them. The NR SCCA usually has around 65 folks per event, sometimes more and we just run out of time to do more than 4 events. Depends on the length of the course too, at the nationals area, they are all 60 seconds or more.

94, I will have to brave the track again to see if there was a dip in the carousel. I know my version of mid america is accurate down to the patches in the two chicanes before the main straight and the center of the track divot in the long sweeper. Race07s tracks are very accurate, the modded ones are generally more accurate as they are done by fans of the track. All I know is I suffered through about 5 laps in a corvette GT car and then in one of the stcc bmw m3s for about 3 laps then gave up. I just couldn't get the feel for the track! If I ever figure it out I know it will be silly amounts of fun, but the struggle to get to that point is frustrating.
