Observations of the S197 3-Link in action

I finally figured out the best way to mount my (now working) GoPro to the underside of my car to catch the 3-link working away while driving "spirited" on the street. It's a LONG video, but there are a couple of notable observations. It will be very surprising to see it while autocrossing!

First, not that I'm surprised, but the PHB isn't level at ride height. Thank you Ford for pronouncing the problems with the PHB arrangement's variable roll center and direction bias.

Second, The axle doesn't move side to side nearly as much as I thought it would on the street. That certainly explains why Ford opted for it in favor of even a simple watts link like some of the Crown Victoria's received. When responding to severe bumps it can be seen to move side to side due to the PHB arc.

Third, the 3 link's pinion angle control is quite good. Only a few instances when you can see the bottom of the differential tuck forward under load.

Lastly, my rear axle needs painted in a new new way!

You can view the video for your own observations. It's about 9 minutes worth of driving, but it's pretty good and very telling. It also looks bad ass There for you in 1080p if you wish
