I think the best bet for your car would be a splitter/diffuser that you can easily remove.

so, im thinking of making the wing out of aluminum, with a hinge on the bottom so i can adjust the angle of the wing, however wouldnt the best angle be at 45 degrees so maybe there is no reason to adjust?

For a proper airfoil wing, I wouldn't go 45º. Infact, I wouldn't recommend trying to make one yourself. Airfoil design has come a LONG way and isn't an easy science to understand. If you are doing just a duck tail spoiler, then go for the 45º but make it adjustable. The Miata I posted a picture of was steeper than 45º. You will have to play with it to find where it produces the level of downforce (and consequently drag) that you are satisfied with.

Best angle for producing downforce with minimal drag at what speed? Is that going to be optimal for every AX and road course you're going to drive on?

Probably depend on speed levels. Op I would make it adjustable.

I know the feeling! Going from expecting nearly 100 hours for both pay periods in december to barely 80 really put a serious damper on the paying off of the credit card and then a less than exciting tax return to just barely pay for new tires.

At this point I'm actually looking into fox bodies (trying to find an unmolested one is not easy) or something to lessen the car payments and insurance yet not be forced into a crappy FWD econobox death!

So I am very jealous of others new part joys!

Honestly? I think you're better off in a stock S197 if you don't mind the size.

Between the quadrabind, wet-noodle-chassis, front suspension geometry, brakes, and gas mileage, I don't think you're gonna save any money over just keeping your current car.

Ohh I'm well aware of the disadvantages (but how bad is the gas mileage really?) and was hoping to address some of those issues with some of the extra money I thought I would be saving. But I'm not sure about keeping 650$ a month in car and insurance when my housing situation is about to get more expensive and income fixed. I know I know, poor planning on my part financially but I was young(er) and dumb and didn't know any better. Maybr refinance the car loan if I can? I don't know yet!

That said, I'm still interested in studying the fox platform for if I ever run into enough money to build one as a fun toy, which is why builds like this thread are interesting, I won't have to do a bunch of research in a hurry! . Besides its kind of fun getting jealous of other peoples awesome builds.

Mileage depends on how you drive it, of course

With my car, on 195s, cruising with the top up, with 2.73s, full tank of ~75mph freeway driving, I saw ~27mpg (that was driving home after doing my 5-speed swap). That was the best I've ever seen and I haven't been able to duplicate it.

With the auto, and 255 RA1s, I never saw the high side of 20, and my average tanks were ~13mpg.

With my current 245 Star Specs and 3.73s, I have no idea because my speedo cable snapped between the tranny swap and doing gears.

And $650/month? Damn, now I understand where you're coming from... every two months is almost enough for a torque-arm swap, hahaha.

Yeah, it isn't easy being under 25 and having a speeding ticket and two accidents while having a fun car and not making a lot of money. Like I said, no one to blame but myself! I lacked the foresight to see that my housing situation would change from cheap (paying rent to live in my brothers house while he is in california with his wife) to expensive (them coming back to nebraska) and I accept that. So the options are limited to either work two jobs, get a better job (trying here but not succeeding, or make cuts. That's life!

Anyway, thread hijack complete! We want pics, and nao!
