I have never, raced an autocross, but I really want to. I have been setting my car up for road courses. My suspension, I believe is good enough, I plan on doing brakes, and possibly a cage. Any suggestions?

I autox whenever I can, tracks are hard to come by around here though, most of what I do is paved mountain back roads they call mountain runs.

gsjohnson, what color was your dark red Fiat 124?

The engine of choice for me was the 1608 and since your weight was determined on which engine you selected to run, the car was the quickest with a 1608. The rules allowed you to back date any of the motors for racing. The 69 Sport Coupe never came with anything but the 1438. I loved these little cars and I owned probaly 8 to 10 of them thru the years. I continued running these cars in B Sedan for years. Everyone was running the tried & true Datsun 510s, so I was quite different in an unproven racing vehicle here in the states.
I think I remember a coupe of that color on a track or two.

When you were state champion autocrosser, was it at the Santa Maria runoffs?

Yeah, don't be surprised when the upclass the HELL out of you for every little mod.

Just so long as you have good tires, you'll be fine.

Wow! Yes it was at Santa Maria and I believe it was in 1975 or 1976. I won the SCCSCC championship as well. Sounds like I must know you...
And you were driving?

I feel ya GF. Although I don't even know if you visit the site that often anymore. LoL.

All autox tracks are on the other side of the state. So I find myself having to hit really outta the way roads to get some grasp of my cars abilities. Haha. Not sure if it's technically autox but since my car doesn't drift it's not considered a mountain drift. Meh. Whatever. This time next year, new brakes and suspension, turbo set up, and performance tranny among other things and autox here I come.
