I have never, raced an autocross, but I really want to. I have been setting my car up for road courses. My suspension, I believe is good enough, I plan on doing brakes, and possibly a cage. Any suggestions?

gsjohnson, what color was your dark red Fiat 124?

The engine of choice for me was the 1608 and since your weight was determined on which engine you selected to run, the car was the quickest with a 1608. The rules allowed you to back date any of the motors for racing. The 69 Sport Coupe never came with anything but the 1438. I loved these little cars and I owned probaly 8 to 10 of them thru the years. I continued running these cars in B Sedan for years. Everyone was running the tried & true Datsun 510s, so I was quite different in an unproven racing vehicle here in the states.
I think I remember a coupe of that color on a track or two.

When you were state champion autocrosser, was it at the Santa Maria runoffs?

Yeah, don't be surprised when the upclass the HELL out of you for every little mod.

Just so long as you have good tires, you'll be fine.

Wow! Yes it was at Santa Maria and I believe it was in 1975 or 1976. I won the SCCSCC championship as well. Sounds like I must know you...
And you were driving?

I feel ya GF. Although I don't even know if you visit the site that often anymore. LoL.

All autox tracks are on the other side of the state. So I find myself having to hit really outta the way roads to get some grasp of my cars abilities. Haha. Not sure if it's technically autox but since my car doesn't drift it's not considered a mountain drift. Meh. Whatever. This time next year, new brakes and suspension, turbo set up, and performance tranny among other things and autox here I come.

Went to my first AX event last weekend and broke my sway bar on the first run! My g/f and I heard it snap at the half-way point, but did not break all the way. I focused on it a second, but all seemed OK handling-wise, so kept on a goin'. By the last turn, it broke all together and was dragging on ground by finish. Not really sure I even crossed the timers to be honest .

I ended up at 70.740 and the best time was 48.??? by a GT2 Porsche. There was a planned 6~7 runs and figured I could have shaved 5 seconds or so. ***HERE*** is a vid from another driver on the course.

Will certainly head out to anther event, but think I will have to wait until next year

I've been autocrossing for about a year and a half or so and I love every second of it. I was running in ESP for a while but I've done a few mods to the car that have bumped me up to CP, so i'm in a virtually stock foxbody running CP haha. Luckily, most of the CP guys no longer bring out their CP cars so I might be able to win by default this year!

Smile

Started in 1976

I started auto crossing right after I got out of high school in Omaha Nebr. I raced my 1970 Z28 Camaro which I had modified to handle the turns. I had a blast too. Raced against the Mustangs and Corvettes back then. Now the Shelby is set up to do the same. Just have to sign up for track day here in Georgia.

I autocross and road race . . .
I am new here and don't know anyone on her so i will just say that i am from Wisconsin and am only 17 years old.
I have a 1996 Mazda Miata MX-5 that i autocross and roadrace arround the area. Will be racing at Road America, Autobahn Country Club, Blackhawk Farms and autocrossing.
The Miata is a full street car with Full race coilovers, all poly bushings, sway-bars, exhaust, intake, full cage that retains my factory interior. It is a street legal spec Miata to say the least....
I can get some pics if people wanna see it.

I also race my 1988 Fox with also has complete race suspension raging from Maximum Motorsports to Griggs Racing to Agent 47.

I personally lov road racing and autocoss and couldn't see myself doing anything else with my cars, like drag racing.

Welcome to the boards!

Tell me you have that sweet, sweet SLA setup from Agent47, lol.

I'm also looking at gettting a 1.8 Miata here sometime shortly; if I do, I'll be putting the Spec Miata suspension kit under it and using it for my daily.

Haha i wish, i would love that but i wouldn't be going to college next year.
Just some plane jane
Griggs Torque Arm
Griggs Panhard bar
Agent 47 coilovers
just the usual

The Miata's are great and i would recommend Bilstein shocks and coilovers with Eibach springs and Eibach sway bars
It rides rough but does it ever handle amazing!!
