autocross events in my area?
How do I find autocross events in my area, are there websites with listings, or is there a secret club you have to be in?

No secret, start with:
DLB Racing Calendar then check with the SCCA. Another place to look while searching is for local Porsche and BMW clubs, they hold events everywhere. |

SCCA or NASA, depending on which one is more active in your area. Sometimes there is a small road race club that is specific to one track, and it's cheap fun. Most of the time, all you have to have is an SA-rated (fire and impact) helmet, and long sleeve shirt, pants, and closed-toe shoes to participate. Out here, the OK Region SCCA makes it's bread and butter off of AutoX events, but the lone road course (Hallett Motor Racing Circuit) has the COMMA Series and HST, which is open to street-legal cars. The most fun you can have with your clothes on.
And you're in PA...there are MANY tracks within reasonable distance. I'd love to be that close to that many tracks. |

Check out scca.org and look for the region locator. You should be able to find plenty of good areas up there.

SCCA is your best bet for the best autocross events

I'd disagree with that. They have good events, but I have a heck of a lot more fun at local car club events than SCCA events. I get more runs, and I'm not nitpicked to death to determine what class I should be in.
