Thanks
![]() Actually went to my first autoX this past w/e and broke the front sway bar! It had a bad weld and popped on the first run I went up to Griggs and was given a new one under warranty. It had a bad weld and just snapped under hard load.I ended up just removing the broken parts and heading home. I was later told by John that I could have continued to run the event, but would have had some add. body roll and probable tire rubbing up front. Will hit it next year as now I have the bug ![]() Jazzer The Cat

Where are you at, Jazzer? Griggs is West Coast, and you avatar pic looks like a road out on the Lost Coast up towards Humboldt.

"You are correct sir"
![]() This is a beautiful section of HWY 1 just South of Fort Ross. This is my "driveway" on weekend roadies with galpal and refer to it as "The Fort Ross Twisties". I live in Marin Co. and was just up your way last w/e to the STOA autoX event at the Snoopy Airport, hence the broken sway bar mentioned on another post. I have a larger pic in My Garage, but unable to give the description I would like as I do on MF's. Do you know if there are any other AX events this year? Maybe a schedule for next? Thanks. Jazzer

There was an autocross out there last weekend? I autocross with ESCA: ESCA - Empire Sports Car Association - Autocross Events for Santa Rosa, Northern California, they have a calendar on their site, but they're also done for the year (bunch of sissies won't race if it's raining ) and don't start 'til sometime in April.I've been to three of their autocrosses, and this is the only picture of my car they've ever posted to their site: ![]() If you ever see me up there, come by and say hi, I usually end up hanging out with the Camaro guys, as most of them are actually Mustang guys that either didn't want to beat up or couldn't afford a Mustang for autocross. I've been talking to my friend up at thunderhill, there's a good chance he might organize an autocross on their skidpad in the next couple months... if not, I might just go to one of his drift events, lol.

The event was sponsored by the STOA and posted on Nor Cal Shelby Club. ***HERE*** is the registration form and was located in the back of the Sonoma Airport where the cops train, I think. I will check out the ESCA site and possibly join if they have any kind of regular AX in this area. My g/f and I were going to hit the Marina AX (also on the schedule above), but was cancelled due to lack of particiapation. We ended up heading to Monterey for a nice w/e anyway
.Will drop in and say hi if I see your car. If you go to an event, hit me up with a PM and will see if I can tag along ![]() Jazzer The Cat |

With the exception of a few regional events, the race season is over...all the broke cars get fixed now! (mine included
) ANd Dex, that right front tire of yours looks like its holding on for dear life lol. Jazzer, that is a sweet setup you have on your car. Are you running a stock alignment or do you have your own caster/camber/toe settings? Last edited by fairlane_68; October 31st, 2008 at 10:08 PM. |

Hello, 68
![]() I don't have a lots of technical knowledge of the suspension, but I will tell you what I can about my ride. I no longer have CC plates so the camber should be about zero with the SLA (it is clearly far less than it was prior). When I had CO's up front, I was running about -2.5° neg. camber. As for caster, I cannot tell you what the numbers are (< my English teacher would not be proud of ending a sentence that way). When I brought it to Griggs, I asked them to set it up for street, but aggressive. The rear springs are 250# and the original CO fronts were 350#. The SLA is just a bit softer, although not much, so I figure they are near 300#~325# (no # numbers on springs). I also opted to go PHB as opposed to WL so I wouldn't lose spare tire. My g/f and I do LOTS of road trips and the places I take my ride are NOT flat-bed friendly This is my DD, but really only sees the road on weekends as I drive a work truck all week. I am running LOTS of stereo equip and easily shave well over what you did on your SN95 project car. I had the GR-40 suspension completed in mid '07 (did in two-stages due to expense) and the SLA upgrade about 2 months back. I have not taken it to a track, but probably will at some point. I had always planned to have some course work and have been interested in AX for some time. I have had enough time to get used to how it drives on some pretty hard street driving. Many, many, many times up the HWY 1 coast to Fort Bragg, a nice hill over HWY 29 out of/back to Calistoga. Pretty much anywhere the road takes us as the g/f LOVES to hit the road as much as I love to drive! This is why AX is attractive to me. I occasionally meet guys who want to "run" me on the twisties, but would rather push myself than involve possible others just heading out for wine tasting. Well, I am rambling on and you only asked a simple question . I am hoping to hit LOTS more AX events this upcoming year and would like to hone my driving skills as well as learn more about an optimum set-up for my ride. I also look forward to meeting good people into the "twisties" experience. I have been on MF's for nearly 3 years now and need to branch out a bit. All great people, but most are into resale value hp numbers while I am into the corners ![]() Jazzer The Cat

AHh...I see. Well, my car isn't done yet...more like in progress. The intrerior is stripped down except for the seats and dash though. The cage will be in this winter, and I'll have at least one motor built by spring. I'm kinda waiting for the deal to go through on my house before I get into anything that will permanently keep it off the road. I was prepping it for time trials at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, but that race got cancelled, and then everything on the car started leaking. Hopefully next year will bring better luck.
What tires are you running? |

As a matter of fact, I just installed my Winter tires/wheels a little while ago. They are 275/35/18" & 295/30/18" PS2's on 9"/10.5" Saleen replicas. My Summer tires/wheels are 295/30/18" & 315/30/18" R888's on 10" / 11" Saleen replicas. Sad to take them off for the season, but rains are VERY heavy this w/e and not so good in the rain
Both sets of wheels are identical, but just had one set widened. I will widen the second set when the current PS2's are dead. Since I was lucky enough to get 1 AX lap in prior to sway bar breaking, I am now totally strung-out on the AX witch I just went out looking for helmets for galpal and I for next event (whenever that is) and looking at full-face ones. Quite the difference in pricing between manufacturers and need to sort it all out before I spend some cash. If you have any input, it would be appreciated I see myself doing an open track at least once, but not interested in side by side racing. Can you tell me if I need an SA rated helmet in such a case? Will an M rated helmet be acceptable? I would guess no.What do you think the final weight will be on your "in progress" car? I would be curious how much you could shave by losing A/C pump, rear seat, stereo (that would be unacceptable for me ), carpet and such. I was talking to a guy at the event last week and his ride weighs in around 2K pounds! Started life as a Corvette and custom molded his own body of carbon-fiber-foam-filled-something-or-another body. Was dead ugly, but VERY fast. Will check in on your blog from time to time and see how she's doin' ![]() Jazzer

Saferacer is about the best place to get most safety gear, they have the best prices, and they price match. CDOC is also a good place, plus they have an incentive if you register your car with them and run their decals...you get big discounts. CDOC sells the higher-end parts and gear, but they still sell the familiar brands of safety equipment.
And most race clubs require a SA helmet, some even require a full-face helmet. M-rated helmets won't cut it, as I learned. G-Force makes some nice ones, and I have the Pro Eliminator, but I got my eye set on a Bell Infusion forced air helmet. Whatever you get, make sure you get a balaclava. Man I had no idea how much those things help...not just keeping the helmet clean, but they add a little cooling effect. Btw, the SCCA has a thing called PDX-Performance Driving Experience-and it's like a time trials-based race, but not really a race. All that's required is a full faced SA helmet, long sleeve shirt and long pants. Oh...and get some driving shoes if you don't have any. ![]() My car's target weight is going to be either ~3300 or ~3600 lbs depending on the engine package I decide on. We had new rules come out this year that threw some confusion into the mix. GM's are allowed a 350 engine, but the Fords can't run a 351W. Jacked up, yes, but we can run a 347 stroker. Anything bigger than 313 ci has to take a 200 lb penalty. Aluminum heads, which Edelbrock just built a spec head for both GM's a Fords, I think is either 50 or 100 lb penalty. I'm waiting for the new rules to be in print before I head to the machine shop. There was a Mustang who got DQ'd at this years championship race over a misinterpretation in the rules for his engine...he finished third, and they got him on the teardown in impound! You can shave alot of weight just by removing the rear upholstery and insulation. I also yanked my sub box (came with the car), and the rear got really light. I put the box back in (I gotta have some music, or all I can hear is the fuel pump), and there was very little change in handling. She can still bark the tires, but sticks where it counts. It took me about 45 minutes or less to remove everything but the headliner from behind the front seats. Hey Guys,
Thanks for inviting me in Fairlane. I bought my 00GT for one reason... to set it up for track days. Not interested in racing at all. HPDE's are enough for me to get my jollies. I am far from experienced with setting up a Mustang, but I've got the usual bolt ons... 2K cobra R brakes, sub frames, Sparco Evo 3 seat (couldnt fit in the 2...), steeda springs, koni yellow shocks, etc. I did a track day at Homestead last weekend, vids can be seen here: Enjoy.... Oh, and Moroso is in 3 weeks.

Hell...the next available track day out here isn't until next year. Which is fine...I get to recover from the holidays and blow money on the car. Still have to have parts sent off...and boxes of other parts to put on...and two engines will be here in January...and...

Fairlane, thanks for info on safety eqip and such. My g/f and I went out shopping on Saturday and found an HJC helmet that fit very well for me. I went back and checked the SCCA Pro Solo handbook and found that an M rated helmet was fine for AX events. I realize it is not acceptable for open track, but will not be running it regularly anyway. At some point, I will hit up a driving school/class and will borrow one for the day. I found a sweet deal ***HERE*** and couldn't pass it up
![]() This is Snell 2005/D.O.T. rated and for $70.00, couldn't go wrong. JTC

Maximum Motorsports would be my suggestion for subframe connectors, followed by Griggs Racing.

Can I join? I usually hit Buttonwillow for Open Track days.
Fairlane, what kind of wheels are those? I have a set of Wilwood SL6's in front and DL4's in back but haven't found a wheel I like that will clear the calipers. I like the ones you have on your car. John

Yeah come on in! And the wheels on the car in my sig are Fikse 19x10's. It's a Forza Motorsport 2 mockup of what my actual '97 will closely resemble when it's ready for full-time racing. |
