Need new tires!
So, after this weekend's autocross, I've determined I *need* different tires before next season.
I'm currently running Kumho ECSTA ASXs. I have a rule that any DD of mine has to have all-season mud+snow tires, which is why I went with the ASXs. However, the Cobra is going to be relinquishing DD duty, so tires are almost wide open. My only limits are that it has to be a street legal tire, and I'd prefer that it held up for at least 10k miles, including a season of autocrossing, so no R-compounds. First tire I'm looking at is the Kumho ECSTA MX. I like the price, and I've heard a lot of good things about them from the local autocrossers. However, I'm also considering doing some track days/HPDEs, and I've heard that the Kumhos don't hold up when ran hard for longer times. I'm also considering Falken RT-615s. Again, have heard a lot of good from autocrossers regarding this tire, though I hear it's not very good in the wet. I've also had bad experience with a set of Falken's, albeit they were the Ziex (turned to wood after ~5k miles). I've always been a big fan of Toyo tires, though I don't have a specific model I'm looking at. R1Rs would be nice, other than the super-low treadwear rating, bringing me up to maybe a T1R, but I really don't like the looks of that T1R's tread pattern. I've had a few suggestions to go with RA1s or R888s (both of which I like, due to being spec tire for AI/AIX and CMC), but again, low treadwear ratings are making me shy away from those. So, any thoughts?

Two Words: Falkens Stick. I have lightened my car enough to get the tires to chirp, but that's all I get before I feel the car "yank." Falken has really stepped up their race and performance tire program, and have gone leaps and bounds over Kumho and Toyo. I will admit that I have a deal already done to run BFGoodrich tires once my car is full-time track ready. For now, while it's street legal, I stick with the Falkens. And yeah, they suck on wet roads.

Sounds good, I'll probably go with a set of RT-615s, then. I mean, if they're good enough for Vaughn Gittin, Jr's Drift Mustang, they should be more than enough for my stock b-port.

I run the PS2's on my Winter wheels and very happy with them. I had previously run the Goodyear Eagle F1-GS D3 and are FAR superior for doing the tip-toe through the twisties. Treadwear of 220 so a nice compromise between R's and mileage. Although, I think the Falkens are a better tire and even has less blocks on sidewall.

Guy in my autocross club is using those on his Z06. I'll have to ask him how he likes 'em.

Funny, I made this thread over a year ago, and it STILL gets responses, hahaha.
For the record, I picked up a second set of wheels/tires, and I run Toyo RA1s as my race rubber.

Was it you, Reverend, who told me that the R888's were going to be discontinued? I still see them listed on the website.... hmmm

I don't know that they're being discontinued, but I know a lot of the race series that had gone from RA1s to R888s are going back (at the very least, I know Spec Miata has made this move). From what I understand, the R888s lasted about half as long, and the racers were complaining about it.

I run NT-01's for track days. From what you say and plan on doing sounds like the NT-05's are for you.
