snap on is overpriced garbage.........not that the tools arent quality but you will still be over paying for them even WITH that kind of discount

So who is better? Craftsman is cheap but they also break often. That becomes a real PITA when you are breaking tools at the shop and have to spin by Sears on the way home. Snap-On swings by the shop once a week.

FYI, if they tell you the discount ends when you graduate (if you're using snapon.com/student) it doesn't. I went to wyotech it took nearly a year after graduating before I couldn't log in to order stuff anymore @ 50% off tools and 53% boxes. As for the tool argument whatever works best for you is fine. Although once you start turning wrenches for a living you quickly learn the craftsman just don't cut it. Ive got my box filled with about 75% snapon and the other 25% mac & matco, and a drawer full of craftsman junk for when I need to cut or bend wrenches, sockets, etc to make them fit in goofy spaces. Which one I buy depends on the attitude of the tool guy, if they have it on the truck and if I can wait or need it that day.

RE: the Snap-On argument

Snap-On is probably one of the premier tool brands out there. Many of their products are made here in the USA, hence the high price. Ask any automotive technician (not a shadetree mechanic), you never buy a tool based on how much it costs, but how much money it will make for you. I bought a $120 3/8 drive ratchet years ago, and I couldn't tell you how many engines, rear axles, front axles, transmissions, and body parts it's disassembled and reassembled. It finally got wore out to the point that it was a safety issue (almost spraining my wrists), and I recently replaced it with another $100 ratchet, from Snap-On. And their diagnostic equipment is second to no one.

I do agree that snapon is junk, but they do warrenty everything so they replace it for free, but why do I want a tool that breaks and makes me bust my knuckles agianst something. My tool box is full of Mac tool with a handfull of snapon odds and ends things that mac didnt have.
