help!

I'm an idiot. Bought a battery at the store, the book said it was for a 5.0 88 gt, but when I put it in, the engine surged to 6rpms!
I turned it off immediately! Checked the battery to the old one, sure enough it was different. So bought the same battery as the old one, but now the engine still revs up to 6rmps.
I think the car has an electric fuel pump, could I have screwed that up? Help, does anyone know what I did to my car? It was running perfect before...uhg
