New rotor break in period, heavy brake dust

I just got new cross drilled rotors and installed them on the front (using my old break pads) Kept the rears stock. I tried to break them in today and when I got home, noticed very heavy brake dust on my chrome rims(front). The rear wheel hardly had any dust compared to the front. It was caked on there pretty good. Is this normal during the first break in period?? I might be considering ceramic brake pads in the future.

You should have ceramics. Mine doesn't have ceramic and I still get dust all over the front. Try ceramics. It should help squeaking too because there isn't metal shards that can get stuck between the rotor and pad.

I heard that ceramic dont have much brake dust at all , but are hard on the rotors. I dont want to chew up my new rotors too much. Do they brake better than Metallics?

Its always normal for there to be more brake dust on the fronts. The fronts brakes do most of the work. What pads are you using? Usually the better pad you have the brake dust that comes with it. Hell my Hawk street pads coat my rims in a day.

Im using my old semi metallic brake pads. Trust me I know there will be more on the front wheels, but this was like double the amount of brake dust..more that I could notice right away. I think the rotor could be eating my brake pads

Yeap, drilled and slotted. So you suggest ceramics then for sure? I dont want to sacrifice too much braking power with ceramics

You can try ceramics but you'll probably find that they will get eaten faster. A ceramic pad is actually softer than a semi metallic.
