buying a 66 fastback v8
i am planning to buy a 1966 fastback v8 , but what are the things/(rust sensative)spots i should pay special attention to when inspecting the car.
the car is already taken partially apart for restoration so i should be able to give it a good look. i was told the car come with a complete new pony interior since i have no idea about the quality , can anyone tell me if the is the right stuff to put in the car? any special thing i should pay extra attention to about the engine and transmission? thank you mustang-art |

How much are you paying for it?
rust could be anywhere, but mustangs have rust commonly found floor pans bottom of the doors.......really the lower fornt part wheel flare and lower rear quarter panel under the very front of the hood floor of the trunk Cowl vent(if your floor pans are rusty it could of been caused by the cowling vent leaking.) Thats just to start. I could go on, but these are good places to start. If it looks bad there, I would not get it. Crawler under the car and look for any rust anywhere. Take a magenet and run it over the places where a told you where rust like to hide. knock on the body and see what sound it makes. If it has been wrecked in the rear it can be hard to fit the hood right, so look at the hood to see if the hood fits right.

thanks for the tips, it wil be helpfull to make me decide if the car would be solid enough for me
the price the guy asks is a bit high for a taken apart car but it comes with a huge amount of new parts (still boxed) so i can make a fair estimate how much the new parts are worth and see what is means for the price of the car itself mustang-art |

There are a lot of parts out there for 66 Mustangs and they are on the cheaper side. Some of the aftermarket part are not the greatest. If you get body panels, they may need more work to get them to fit right. OEM tooling parts are the best.
