autometer gauges

I have a electrical oil pressure and water temp gauge. Have everything finaly hooked up but the gauges arent working right. At first the gauges would only light up and not show any readings. Then i made sure my grounds we ok and found the they werent on a good enough ground so i switched the grounds and then the gauges shot strait to the right and stayed. Why is this? Can someone help out.

Thanks

You need to check were you have you wires hooked up.

S = Source aka the sending unit of that guage.
12+ = Switch 12 volts , I like the post off the back of the Ing Switch.
G = Same ground that is behind you instrement panel that all you stuff is grounded at
Lights = goes to the Blue w/Red stripe wire. there is a triple plug behind your insterment panel.
