newbie needs conv
Been reading you folks for awhile - ready to settle down and play & need your help. Need a conv in driving condition, prefer C code with auto, pwr top, PB,PS and not a lot of rust - hopefully not a restoed. Located in WI but can pickup or have transported for the right car/price. Been out of touch with mustangs for a few yrs (10) & not sure what prices are fair. Example: if I found a 66 with previous mention items that is currently drivable (used 1 day a month by grandma/pa), some rust thru on outer front fender & rear qtrpnl, not original color & poor paint, minor rust on rear frame rails near shackle mounts but generally straight & solid with less than 70000 original miles. What would be a fair price? Thanks!

I really don't know, but prices have shot up in 10 years. I would say that if you could get it for 5k I would get it. 10k I think would be to high. If it was nice It would go for more then 20k
Whats the C code for? I read things about codes and forget them.

I forget the codes too. Had to look them up & write them down. C code is a V8 - 289. I figured a car like this would be around 5-7 but some people are telling me I'm too low, sooo if anyone knows of one a would love to hear about it. Thanks.

Thanks for the welcome orangeRcode. I'll have to look up your list but they sound right. The only one I can ever remember is the T code for the 6 cyl. There are more codes for the 65-70 years. I have them @ home & can post later if anyone is interested.

I'll post the code info for VINs. Somewhere I have the codes for data plates regarding color, interior, mfd date, xmsn & axle. I'll have to post them when I find it.

Thanks GTsetGO - some nice rides there. There is one project unit in Fla. - if anyone out there can help bring it to WI I'd like to talk.
By the way GTsetGO - nice image. At first I thought it was a mopar then looked again and thought I was back overseas. Either way - great milage, slow as hell down the strip but great photo.

Here r the #'s I have for Mustang Vins:
*Model years 1965- 1970 Digit Position Reference #1--------------------------Last Digit of Model Year #2--------------------------Assembly Plant F=Dearborn, Michigan R=San Jose, California T=Metuchen, New Jersey #3 & #4-------------------BodyCode 01=Hardtop 02=Fastback/Sportsroof 03=Convertible 05=Mach I 07=Hardtop 08=Convertible 09=Fastback #5-------------------------Engine Code (by engine) V= 170 T= 200 L= 250 F= 260(V8) C= 289 A= 289 (4V) D= 289 (4V) K= 289 Hi Perf. F= 302 J= 302 (4V) G= 302 Boss H= 351 M= 351 S= 390 Y= 390 W= 427 P= 428 O= 428 CJ R= 428 SCJ Z= 429Boss #6 - #11--------------------Sequential Production Number These are guides only. I have put them together over the years. I am sure if one would spend time on line there is somewhere to confirm them. Keep in mind when I started doing this there where no pc's or the internet. Most of these codes where taken out of shop manuals and from dealers as I needed them. I know some of the engines r listed twice but that is the info I have. If anyone knows of any codes that r incorrect please let me know - I know most of you r real shy about that!! not!!! Just be nice. Hope it helps. I have the Data Plate codes somewhere - just not sure where. Can post when I find them if anyone thinks it may help.

Thanks everybody - I've received a few PMs regarding clarification so I'll try to do that.
Yes I'm still looking for a convertible. I am in Wisconsin, the car does not have to be here but it would be easier. I am looking for a classic mustang convertible (birthday/anniversary gift for wife April/June). I would prefer it to be running as I do not want a total project right now. Being winter and school & all. Bottom line is I'll take just about any leads I can. I have also added a WTB in the classifieds. Some of you were real nice in pointing me in that direction - others were just rude, crude, nasty & just darn right mean. It was my 1st post - jeeez some of you need to lighten up or get laid. I said I was a newbie. THANKS!
