Clear Coat Qs

I appologize to all of you guys for asking so many questions, but i'm new to old cars so please be patient with me.

So my car was resently painted, but whoever painted it did a really crappy job, and it looks like it has no clear coat. I came across a product called "Liquid Glass" which is suppose to be the best polishing compaund out there.

Since i dont have the money to repaint the car do u guys think that this will fix my problem at least to some degree.

BTW what is a fair price for a good pait job? i was quoted $4500 which includes 2 coats of paint, 1 coat clear, and some minor body filling work.

For what your looking to do, You might try Macco. I know I know But I have seen 3 Really nice jobs done for under $2000.

I would not try to add a clear, it will come off quikly if it is not done right.

I have never used Liquid glass.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

$4500 for a full paint job with some body work seems reasonable.

that is as much as the car. If you had my budget, it will seem expensive to you too.

Two color coats and one clear scares me and it doesn't leave much for color sanding. Also the coverage will depend on the color, some cover better than others. I would think that three base and three clear would be more in tune for a quality job. Oh, I forgot, you may try the polish and have favorable results. The next step would have someone buff it (if theirs any clear left). A good paint shop can give you a recommendation as what to do.

I have been told 1500 for a paint job on my 67. So 4500 sounds high.

High end paint? We got a paint kit from Sherman Williams Automotive for $150. Not high end stuff, but will do the job needed. I am thinking about getting mine painted or s/c or t/c if I get this job over the summer.

Yeah, high end paint. IMO, the paintjob can make or break a car. A ok paint job will make it look good but a GREAT paintjob on the same car can make people drool. Hence why I would spend the extra money on the paint. But this is just my opinion.

We spend on some of our cars $20,000 on paint and body work.

If you notice we media blast first then paint the entire car.

Our low side paint job is $6,000

This is one of our $6,000 jobs

This is two of our $20,000 jobs. Oh and did I say, we fly Gene Winfield in to paint them?

If you're going to do a paint job, do it right the first time, so you don't have to do it again. Be prepared to spend some money and if you don't have it, save it before you start and it will save you headaches.
