wheel adapters
what do yall thing of wheel adapters such as
i was about to purchase them when i was told they are unsafe. i want to use the bullit wheels of an 03 that i have lyin around, but the control arms on my 68 coupe get in the way. i can see dangerous for racing, but i dont race. how about at highway up to 80 mph? thanks guys |

I have adapters on my 67 from the same company. I haven't had a problem with them yet.

No, they are 91 GT rims. Fox body "pony rims"

The ones you are looking at are pretty cheap, I paid 170 for 4 adapters. I went from 4x4.5 to 4x4.25 to make the fox body rims fit.

Yes, mine are aluminum. Are the rims hitting the control arms? MustangOne should be able to help you some more when he gets on.

yeah, not very much, but still, just enough to not fit. its cause the rims are so wide and deep

I would have this kind of problem if I didn't have the adapters. I also wouldn't be able to have these on. A classic mustang can usually have a rim with about 4.5" backspacing. Over that and you will need a spacer. I don't know exactly what a bullitt rim backspacing is, but that should help.

I think that the way you modified the adapters is exactly the situation that the added lugs are trying to reduce. By using one long stud, you have overstressed the lug. The idea of using two short studs is to distribute the load rather than concentrate it. You might want to re think this mod. Please do not take my word for it, do your own search.

I've got spacers on the front and back of my 66 and I have yet to have any problems.

we are using long studs on all our fox body heavy duty axels.wasted an axel but didnt brake the studs.

well, i ended up getting the adapters. i found a local with a set of four brand new for really cheap! i love craigslist!!! iv found so much good stuff on there. i even found my mustang on there hahaha
