I have adapters on my 67 from the same company. I haven't had a problem with them yet.

The ones you are looking at are pretty cheap, I paid 170 for 4 adapters. I went from 4x4.5 to 4x4.25 to make the fox body rims fit.

Yes, mine are aluminum. Are the rims hitting the control arms? MustangOne should be able to help you some more when he gets on.

I would have this kind of problem if I didn't have the adapters. I also wouldn't be able to have these on. A classic mustang can usually have a rim with about 4.5" backspacing. Over that and you will need a spacer. I don't know exactly what a bullitt rim backspacing is, but that should help.

That would be one heavy hunk of steel bolted to the spindle.

I don't like adapters but I'm using them up front. I did something different with mine though. I removed the studs that were pressed into the adapters so all that is left is the aluminum spacer. I installed longer wheel studs on the rotor and place the spacer over the new longer studs and lock it in place with the small lug nuts. The longer stud sticks out beyond the spacer and I add the wheel onto the same stud and torque it down.

I think that the way you modified the adapters is exactly the situation that the added lugs are trying to reduce. By using one long stud, you have overstressed the lug. The idea of using two short studs is to distribute the load rather than concentrate it. You might want to re think this mod. Please do not take my word for it, do your own search.

I've got spacers on the front and back of my 66 and I have yet to have any problems.
