Hey I come from an all Chevy family and just bought a 65 Mustang Coupe. After the inital shock when I pulled it up to my pops garage, he agreed to help me work on it. We just built the front suspension with grab a track parts, which was pretty easy. I still have to put in a new shifter in it because the dude I bought it from has it so far up that you have to reach way up to shift from 3 to 4. Also the reverse is all the way left and up, is this the original tranny? I also have so much wheel hop that i need to put some traction bars in the back. But I am really thinking about the engine. Its a 289 now, and has good power but it smokes pretty bad. I know it wont pass emmisons. I have thought of everything from blueprint 347 stroker, to ford racing. I also have thought about rebuilding the 289. Tonight I looked on Ebay and some outfit has a rebuilt 347 with over 400 horse and aluminum trickflow heads super cheap, is this a scam, they are selling these engines for like 3500. The heads alone are worh 1100 bucks so whats the deal? What is the best and cheapest way to get power? How much horse can I get if I rebuild my 289 for around 3000? When I orignally bought the car I wanted to throw the mustang II front end on it but was talked out of it by every ford guy I have talked to. Some of these guys got offended as though I was sleeping with there wives when I mentioned that idea. But rack and pinon steering and disk brakes plus the nice front handeling for around thiry five hundo, including labor for the difficult welding. Anyway Im all pumped up, I have never owned a ford but this one is really nice looking. I want to eventually put that sinister bodykit from las vegas mustang. any feedback would be great fellas

Generic Lakewood slapper bars work great on leaf spring cars. They are cheap and effective. If you want the best leaf spring traction bar, invest in a set of Cal-trac bars. You don't have to worry about emissions because it is exempt from all emissions testing being that it is a 1965 vehicle. I wouldn't buy any engine off ebay. Ebay is full of crooks. The 289 can be freshened up and make respectable power. You could probably build a low budget 347 for $3500 and it would be a nice street motor. You could also drop a 351W in as well.

I don't see what's wrong with putting the mustang II front end on your car. If I had the money I'd do the same thing.

btw whisch grab a trac kit did you get, the full front and back kit? Ive been looking at that for a few months now debating on whether or not to get it. What do you think of their product so far?

Let me start by saying I have never put in a Mustang II frontend, but Lots of people do it in the mustang and hot rod world. You can buy an aftermarket rack and pinon steering from flaming river, but its not cheap.

I think I got the front and rear grab a trac kits. I got them 15 years ago or so. My car stays nice and flat around corners. I don't know if they are the same now or not. I would think they were. If not, it is a old name.

I literally just installed my grab-a-track front end kit... I have clearance issues, most likely b/c of my engine choice. Other than that (which is very minor) i am impressed with the kit. Gave the front end a fresh feel
