Help in getting Engine Started

I have a 66 Mustang GT that seems to have a spark or ign. problem. The car is a 289 V8 GT automatic. Recently while driving the car just stopped, as if it were out of gas, which it was not. The car would not restart even with the assist of carb. spray. I have replaced the coil, the dist. cap, the fuel filter and the fuel pump. The car will turn over but not fire. The Dist. has the new electronic ignition system rather than points and condenser.

Any Suggestions on trouble shooting?

Could be several items. If you've switched the points/condensor to electronic ignition & it died while running, sounds like it might be a bad ground or wire connection. There is also a spark modulator but they normally fail after car has shut off but i suppose it's possible that it could fail anytime. Start with the basics - trace spark starting from coil to plugs. Do you have spark at the plug? Where do you lose spark?

yes, take out the plugs one at a time and lay them on the block away from any other wires, just on bare metal, or hold them by the wires and put them up against some ground somewhere else and crank the engine. if the spark jumps, then its not ignition (for that cylinder anyway). do this to each one. if there is no spark, then pull the plug wire and test it with a dvom (digital volt ohm meter) for resistance to see if the wire is bad or not. work from there. replace the plug if you want to also.

i've been having the same problem with my '64 1/2

after a while of trying just about everything, i pulled the spark plugs out and they were wet which kept it from firing.. replaced all 8 and it ran like new!
