Need Some More Help (1969 Coupe)
Ok guys Im going to check out a clean mustang this saturday and need to know what to look for to see if its a good idea to purchase or not. First the asking price is 6500 and it is running like a champ according to them. BUt yeah. It has a 351 Windsor brand new and said to be barely broken in (Just about a 1000 miles on it.) oh... i should tell you the year and model huh? 1969 Coupe Blue. What should I look for? The owner told me it has a quarter size spot of rust on the drivers side rear fender and the old drum brakes. Should I upgrade to disc brakes? How much would that cost?

If it has one spot of rust, chances are it has more or is going to get more. Rear quarter panels are common rust spots as well as the floor boards under the carpet. If your concerned about hidden bondo you can take a refigerator magnet and touch it to suspect areas. If it doesn't stick, there's bondo. I don't know specifically what you need help with, but at $6500 I'd expect a fairly nice coupe.

look under the car at the floor pans in front of each seat in the car. those are major rust spots. look at the firewall inside the car, major rust spot. look at the cowl too. and if u do buy it change the oil first thing. its break-in oil change so its gonna have all the crap from the fresh-rebuilt engine in it so you're gonna wanna change it asap and the filter (duh).

As far as converting to disc it's gonna be a pretty penny. unless you go to a junk yard and find a 60 something Monarch, Cougar, Maverick or of course a Mustang and get the hardware from there. Otherwise you're lookin at at least 800 for the conversion kit.

Thanks for the advice on the cheaper disc rotors. Safety is my first mod's to this car. Second comes the performance
Even if it is cheaper stuff at first its safer then drum. |
