Question

classic mustang build help?

Hey guys:

Ok so my dad purchased a 1973 Mach 1 with a 351C 2V and is going to do a total restoration on it back to stock. It is in the process of tear down right now but I suggested to him that he should definitely try to get more HP out of it . He agreed! So my question for you guys is this, should it be bored and stroked? If so to what specs? Any suggestions would be great, along with anything from cams to heads or anything? He loves this car but we don't know the best way to build this motor. He would like to maintain a stock looking engine bay so forced induction is out of the question. Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated.

That is the Same car I drove in HighSchool and still own it.

Keep the the 2V heads. You dont need to go to the big 4V heads.

The 2V heads work good for a DD.

Intake Edelbrock RPM performer for a 2V heads. 750 Holley duel line with mechanical secondaries.
Headers. Cam 280/280 512 lift 110 LC
Keep it as close to a .030 bore as you can, dont take it to a .060
30 over runs cooler and 60 over is the last time you be able to bore the block.
Ram air is a stock option for a 1973 Mach1.

Replace the Rear End to a 3:55 Gear, yours probably has a 2:72

Good Luck

what kind of pistons dished, flat, or domed

open heads or quenched heads

What im asking is important to know the compression ratio.

if it is a stock 73 motor it had no compression. Had 165 hp

I would try to go with a 10:0.1 it would be a nice 300/325 horse motor.

he's pretty much open to anything! I was just searching for ideas so whatever you guys think would be a good setup would definitely be considered. Like I said I know nothing about these motors, and my pops has been out of the game awhile! He has restored a few vette's and now has the LE 08 Challenger to drive so he wants a project and he graduated in 1973 and wants this car (had to be yellow) and his next project is going to be a 1973 yellow rag top vette.
