need some help with performance

I have a 72 mustang that has a 351w in it.. im pretty sure that it has 2v heads (it has the big 13/16in spark plugs).. first a little history on the car. well when i got it had a 2bbl carb on and it had headers and did not run. I have no idea what has been done to the engine before me. i put a holley 600cfm 4bbl with an edelbrock streetmaster aluminum intake, crane cams fireball ignition swap, 350lsd diff and a shift kit in the tranny (fmx). Oh and alot of suspension work. well when it ran good i could pull the front tires off of the ground and put you against the seat so hard you couldnt breath. then i over heated it and messed up the intake on it. fortunately it didnt hurt the block or the heads. well to fix the intake it would have cost me more than a new intake. So i bought a new intake (edelbrock rpm air gap) thinking i could set it up and get more power from it. well i have yet been able to get it to run like it did. last night i put a holley 750 double pumper 4bbl carb on it an tried to get it to run better.. well it runs alot better but still not like it used to. It will not even spin the tires now, where as before it would smoke them at 60mph. now my question is how do i calibrate heads cam carb and motor. im trying to relearn this stuff. and how do i find out whether i have 2bbl or 4bbl heads. and if i have 2bbl how do i set it up to get the most power do i need new heads or something like that? im looking for torque... thanks for any help in advance. oh and im not rich so can i do anything to improve performance for little money?

if it ran the way you said the problem may be in something you changed.intakes can make a big diff.i would go back and recheck the tune.go from there.

It sounds like the tune on it.

Most people just swap parts and go drive it. But you have to set it all up.

What ever you can do to get the most Air & Fuel Mix into the cylinders.

What are you plans for the car? Do you have windsor or a Cleveland.

A windsor the thermastat is on the Intake.
A cleveland the thermastat comes off the block.

Reason why I ask 72's had Clevelands in them.

This way I can tell a build for your car.

well we seem to have fixed it for the most part. it studders abit at first but if i power brake it past the hickup it screams.. smokes the tires through all gears. i think its timing issue.. i ran out of time so i am gonna hit it with my timing light....my plans in the long run are BIG i am looking for about 7-800who and more torque. but i want to do as much with this set up as i can because the motor is the last thing i plan to build. i have a 351w with an rpm air gap intake and a holley 750 double pumper carb. it has headers and electronic intake. im thinking in the long run 417 stroker with twin turbo set up. t-56 tranny to run it..are there any heads that i can get now that will be good now as well as in the future for that set up so i dont have to buy separate heads?
