starter solenoid problem

So my engine wouldn't turn over when i went to leave today, turns out i left the lights on last night. Well i got my dads car and proceeded to jump it...Still nothing, not even a little nudge. So my friend who works for a mechanic lives next door and said to try banging on the starter, so i did and i heard a weird noise from the solenoid. like a continuous clicking. And i managed to get the engine to start turning a little by banging on the solenoid, and my friend banged on it and cracked it...So i went out and got a new one. Same problem.

And I ripped a wire apart which makes me the the wires just went bad, because i put little to know force on the wire and it broke.

on the front of my starter solenoid there are 2 angled (terminals?) one marked I and the other s. the one marked S broke.

what can i do, or does it sound like i need a new starter.

EDIT: By the way it rained ALOT this morning.
