help on getting the right 1967-69 Mustang1. would it be better to come over to america (which i am prepared to do) and find a car $(1000 plane trip). or to have someone over there look at one for me. 2. I have around $15 K to spend on the car itself. 3. i have been changing my mind every couple of weeks, 1968, 1969 (mach 1) model. can someone help me with the differences like price, availability and just advantages. if anyone here has or knows of either of these models, paint is not important, panel dings not important, i want to do the car up myself, possibly put a new engine in, , i was planning on buying at the end of this year. is there a price difference or more availliable due to season. any help would be apprciated, i really have wanted this car for many years, cheers peter piper |

1. well, first off.. if you want a mustang like that i would probably recommend you have somebody that lives in america find one for you because, well, we live here so we know where to look
![]() 2. its gonna be tough to find one for 15k that is worth restoration. prices are so high on those year models that you would be likely to find one for that price that is worth restoring but it may not have an engine, transmission, etc. 3. i think a 1967 and 1968 fastback would be harder to find because they are in such high demand cause many people want to make "eleanors" out of them. dont get me wrong, a 69 fastback or mach 1 would be hard to find in good condition too i personally have a 1967 fastback and i dont think the prices change from season to season though i could be wrong. oh and you said you may put a engine in it.. just dont put a nissan engine in it :wink |

price change
Hey thanks heaps, well i think i would be able to stretch the price up to 20K, and haveing someone look saves me going over there gives me some extra cash.
you seem to know alot about it, so do you think you would be able to help me find one of find someone that would be willing to help find test, buy and organise shipping for me. i can handle it being in not great shape, just start with a base and work up from there i get more money, i am in the air force so i dont really spend money on anything else. so if i got someone to look and find a car, with dinged up panels, but frame not bent, missing lights, no engine, Etc. in pretty average order with buying fees, what do you reckon i am looking at price range. yeh i would prob want to put something in it like a 351 windsor or a 428 into it, does there need to be any changes to the engine bay to put the 428 into it. I think i can find a block from around $2500. but that just what i have seen. any help would be appreciated, do you have any pics of your 67 you can show off, i would love to see to get some ideas and inspiration, thanks heaps peter piper |

I have heard of right-hand-driver versions of Mustangs in Australia before, so you might even be able to find one out there. I'm sure it will be much more limited than out here, though, and probably more expensive as well.
I just bought a 69 Mach1 in good, but not perfect, shape for just under $15k, so $15k to $20 isn't unrealistic. However, if you're planning to get an American one, don't forget to include shipping/import costs into your figure. Flying a person out to OZ is around $1200. I've no idea how much shipping a car would be. Hope your dream is realized. Best of luck to you! |

not to mention the exchange rate lessens that 15-20 when put into american currency.

You could really save a nice bit of change if you just look for a mustang without a fancy title in front of it. Also don't shop around the coast's for anything because you will end up paying much more than the car is worth. I bought a 70 fastback for under $11 thousand. No rust, perfect working order nice inside and out. In Iowa.

A couple of things to consider in your search :
1) If you like the looks of the mustang coupe, you can save a lot of money compared to the fastback, or get a much better car in the coupe style for the same money as a lesser quality fastback. The biggest differences in coupe v.s. fastback prices in Western Canada occur in the 69 model year. 2) Many people consider the 67-68 model to be the most desireable mustangs around, and prices reflect this. However, there are some significant improvements in the 69 in terms of driving and reliability, so if you are looking for a driver, don't discount the 69. 3) Low mileage rules, if it is documented. A low mileage car is worth the extra bucks in the asking price. 4) RUST : The 65 to 68 mustangs have a vertical frame rail just behind the front wheel wells. This is a structural rail and the door hinges bolt to it. Except for customized cars, the top end of the frame rail was wide open to water infiltration coming off the front tires. Poor design, and if rust gets going inside the frame rails, the car can be extremely difficult to salvage. This is hard to spot until the problem is well advanced. 5) In terms of good drivers, try to find a 4 speed manual, or the 3 speed floor shift console produced in 1969. For engines, you will pay way too much for the big blocks, and the 302 or 351W in good tune produces enough power to overpower the steering and suspension anyway. Hope this narrows your search. |

There is a website http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/ that has a very good classified section. I know a number of people who have purchased vehicle from the site without any issues. You might just cruise through their classifieds.

Are you still looking for a Mustang? I have a '68 coupe that is red with a white vinyl top. The body has no dents and the interior is in very nice condition. It has a 289 with automatic transmission, power steering, and original in-dash air conditioning. The body has some rust spots, but not bad. I'm in Texas.
