68 Mustang engine swap question

Hello everyone. I have a 68 mustang with a 78 302 in it now. I want to put an 88-93 Carb'd 5.0 motor in it. I have tried finding a "how to" on just putting a 5.0 into it 67-68 but havn't found quite what i'm looking for. On top of it I'm not sure which category the 78 parts on my engine now fit into. If someone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

If you're staying carb'd and already have a smallblock in there, I don't think you have to do anything special, just pull your old motor and drop the new one in. If you've got a 4-speed in your '68 currently, you might take the chance to upgrade to a 5-speed, and just have a custom driveshaft made for the T-5 (or whatever you choose to go with).

The 5.0 is the same bolt pattern on the block and heads as your 302.

Things that you will have to use off your old motor is the timing chain cover and water pump.

You will need to buy a flywheel 50 oz 157 thoot to still use your transmission.

Yes, I do

If your motor is a 88-93 EFI it will not have the fuel pump opening on the timing chain cover.

And the newer motors have the lower rad hose on the drivers side instead of the passagers side. Water pump is alot cheaper than a Radaitor.

You can use the ones off your old motor, and pullys.

You still will need to buy a flywheel 50 oz 157 thoot to still use your transmission. in 1982 &up the motors are 50oz and 164 flywheels.

you still need to buy a radaitor to fit your car. I would buy a 1968 24" big block radaitor.

It will fit your car and have the bottem rad hose on the drivers side.

Just remember to buy the mounting brackets for the stock rad. If you go Griffin or Northern Radaitor you can make your own.
