Rod bearings/Oil Pan

My engine is making a knocking sound and I think it is coming from the rod bearings, which I can get to if I can get my oil pan out ('67, i6 200). When I worked on it this weekend I took out all of the oil pan bolts and thought I could shift it around to get it out, wrong. Is there an easy way to get to these bearings, or am I going to have to take off the crossmember and sway bar?

Yes, Cross member, sway bar, and drop the drag link.

The main thing is dont not start the motor till you know what is wrong.

Right now you can save the motor, if the rod cap breaks you need another motor.

if it is knocking i would pull it out .put it on a stand and put a crank kit in it or have yours turned.it wouldnt take much more to slip a set of rings in it.

Thanks. I don't think it is anything major (hoping) because the knocking is really faint, doesn't sound like a rod. Also, it is coming from the bottom of the engine where the rod bearings are, so I am hoping that is it.

I've been spraying all nuts with blaster to loosen them up, and I tried turning them last night and all broke loose so I should be good to go this weekend. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I have some traveling to do this week so I can not get to it until this weekend.

I got around to getting the cross-member and sway bar off, followed by the oil pan (full of sludge). GOOD NEWS: when I pulled the transmission I put a block of wood under the oil pan to support the engine, which apparently dented the oil pan (which I was able to easily press out) enough to make the back rod cap hit the pan, thus making the knocking sound. Glad it was an easy fix.
