not starting hot

Hi guys, I have an on going hot starting problem. The engine is a 289 with edelbrock performer manifold ,1405 4 barrel carb and pertronix ignitor .
When cold, it starts fine, when hot I have to crank 3 to 4 times before it kicks over. Also after about an hour or so it starts right up.
also the coil seems to get hot. The carb has a spacer and the fuel line has thermo sleeve.
The carb has been tuned on the dyno, rejetted and metering tube. makes 160 hp at the wheels.
It seems to also kick over when the key is released ,not when turned on.
Any ideas ?

red66 is a 66 red coupe, a sweet 289, stage 1 cam, edelbrock manifold, 1405 4 barrel carb. 2 and half inch magnaflow exhaust system , T5 5 speed with nitro locker and 3.55 diff. It has nice grunt.

sounds like all the power is going to the starter.try a wire from the + side of the coil to + battery and see what happens.
