Can I put 15"X 8" weld wheels on my 65 stang

I want to put 3's and 8's on my 65 mustang. the question is if i do what is the largest tire i can put on the rear rims.or do i need to go down to a 7" rim on the rear and if so what is the largest tire that i can go with on those.

Welcome to MM Forums.

Yes you can put a 15X8 on a 65

I would go 15X9 " 5" back space" if you was going to go drag racing.

And go with this tire.

But if your just driving the car I would go with the 8" rim

and a set of these

Mr Mustangone,Thanks for the response to my thread.I like the mickey thompsons that u posted in ur response can i use that same tire with the 8x15 weld wheel with a 5.5" back space. the reason i ask is i can get a really good deal on some used 8x15s.One other question will a 351 windsor fit under the hood of a 65 mustang W/ no modifications to the car.By the way that M.T. tire size u recommended was 255/60-15.

The 351 will fit with the special headers for it, Still very tight.

The 5.5 will fit, the nice thing with that back space you can always space them out. That tire likes a 9" wide rim.

Yes the tire was a 255/60-15 and is a link to the tire.

Good Luck, Todd

Welcome,

Yes, no mods.

I run a 17"X9.5 with a 5.5 back space

with a 255/45/17 Fusion tire on the rear of my 1965 Neon Green car.

With mid eye 4 leaf spring and monroe gas matic shocks.

I run a 15X8 with with 4.5" backspacing on my '69. I use the Mickey Thompson DRs posted, in a 275/60R15, and they work great at the track.
