Tap engine vs. a roller engine


Is a roller engine really that much better than a tap.Taking into consideration the horse power for the money

Everything about a roller engine is better than a flat tappet.

Less friction = less wear, more horsepower. Yes it's better, but build what you like. There is no reason you should build anything just because someone else says so.

If you build an engine and use a flat tappet cam, make sure you break it in properly, and us an oil with sufficient ZDDP, or you'll have big problems. Valvoline VR1 has 1300 ppm ZDDP, and most cam manufactures require at least 1200 ppm. Also note that most deisel oils have removed ZDDP including Rotella.
