67 gas tank

I have purchased a 67 mustang that has been well stored and has no rust for the las 5 or six years but there has been gas left in the tank any suggestions my main concern is will the tank be rotted or rusting from the inside i have heard some things about that

Any old tank might have rust in it. Put a good filter on it and go with it. If the rust really bad, replace the tank. Does it run? Are you get rust in your filter?

Gas tanks are cheap and easy to replace. I personally would save myself the headache and replace it.

it dose run when gas is poured through the carb I didnt wanna take any chances running it from the gas tank as of now I am just changing all of the fluids and will be changing the fuel filter and then will try and get it running from there(after removing the old gas) by the way what would be the best way to empty a 67 gas tank?

depending on how much gas was in it, that could take YEARS..

if it doesnt have a drain, you might have to remove the tank and empty it out

Having just cleaned out and sealed my own tank, I'd say it's worth a few extra bucks to just replace the thing. It will cost you almost the same by the time you're done, and it won't take you 5 hours of playing with acids and acetone.

40 years of sediment, rust, and varnish creates one disgusting pile of slag when you empty the tank. Definitely don't want that in your fuel system if you can avoid it.

Oh, and be careful not to drop the tank if you remove it. Gas fumes + metal gas tank + concrete = sparks and no eyebrows.

hehehe, that reminds me of my next door neighbor growing up. I went over one day when he had his potato gun out and we fired it off a few times. well the last time he went to use it he sprayed the wd40 in it but didn't shut the cap so when he fired it the flame shot at his face and burned his eyelashes and eybrows. He is lucky that his glasses protected his eyes.

You could always use a cutting torch to cut a hole in it and empty it

That sounds like something a few people I know would do. I would love to watch, from a safe distance, as they did.

if the tank has a drain on the bottom take it off and drain the gas first...you would not want to run gas that old anyway..but if it comes out a rusty color i wouldnt use that tank..you get a tank for like nothing and it will take 10 mintues to change...
