boring a engine


i posted a topic about a 302 im getting and that it was bord .40 or and i didnt no if i wanted to bord it .60 over and some one said that i would have overheating problems, i wanted to know if here is a way to stop this from happening besides not boring it...thanks

if it doesn't have to be bored, don't do it. otherwise a new block isn't all that expensive.

When you bore it, it makes the cylinder walls thin. Sometimes .040 is ok, but anything over .030 is when they can start having problems. I'm sure there are people out there that have bored them .060, and don't have problems, but I'd say there is a great chance, that you will. The safest bet, would be a different block.

Have the block sonic checked and then have it bored as little as necessary just to clean up the cylinders. The reason for boring a block is to clean up the cylinders. The cubic inch gain is minimal....about 5 cubic inches per .030". .060 on an older block will most likely be ok but on a newer block will not leave much meat left in the cylinders.

i checked out the block...it is .40 over and there is plenty between the walls still..the block is for 1968...so its not new....im not going to bord it anymore...and i have other question how much would a direct nitrous kit cost....thanjks
