BOSS 408 & Viper 6 speed (LOTS OF PICS!)

This is my mock up 351w with 351C heads on it, and B&A Track Boss 351w intake mocked up. I did a lot of measuring to make sure exhaust would fit and i'd be able to change my spark plugs.

The roller cammed short block during my build

351C heads VS 351w heads

Clearancing the shock towers for headers and spark plug servicing

piston notched for 351C intake valve

My new tranny, to replace the T5 is a T56 from a 2004 Viper

headers mocked up

T56 adapters, mount to sbf bellhousing

While I was in there I upgraded my front suspension:
Rebuilt upper control arms, shaved for mounting clearance, ball joint angle modified to run 1 3/4" shelby drop.
Lower control arms rebuilt with screw in ball joints and spherical bearings to replace the rubber bushings.
Strut rods replaced with adjustable rods

Vario centric camber kit installed. this allows for camber adjustment at the lower control arm instead of adding shims on the upper arms.

Installed Baer Tracker kit to reduce/remove bump steer.

I had to cut a hole in the trans tunel to make clearance for the T56.

Shock towers complete, ready for engine install

engine and tranny mate up, no fighting, I was happy

Engine installed

Almost done. Still have to install a few odds and ends, and a Vortech supercharger. I plan to run the long haul on the Hot Rod Power Tour this summer. http://www.hotrod.com/upcomingevents...07_power_tour/
2007 HOT ROD Power Tour Schedule
Saturday, June 2: Cleveland, Ohio
Sunday, June 3: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Monday, June 4: Racine, Wisconsin
Tuesday, June 5: Springfield, Illinois
Wednesday, June 6: Evansville, Indiana
Thursday, June 7: Memphis, Tennessee
Friday, June 8: Little Rock, Arkansas

Hope to see some of you there,

Bart

Thanks for the kind words.

I wish I could say there wasn't much money involved. The only labor I'll be paying for will be the front end alignment and the custom driveshaft. I will say, I have received/found a lot of good deals here and there along the way that have helped out tremendously. I don't want to get deep into economics on anyone but I will say I am a SSgt (E5) in the Air Force. This is not a high dollar G Machine. I like to think of it as an "old school, do-it-yourself because that's all you got", project. It takes forever to save up for big items.

Grimmy, funny you mention it, I might be in your area after the power tour. I have a friend that's a cop in Mesa . He and I used to work together in Hawaii and we're both Mustang freaks. I'll let you know if I do.

It don't matter how much money you spend on it. Someone had to pay for those parts at full price. The money is in it, it just wasnt you that had to pay full price for it. Thats the way I like to do things. When you get done you are going to have a nice ride.

Well, I do all my own work so labor is free. Deals I find for example, my Versailles rear end complete with disc brakes and trac loc, $125. I guess whoever bought the Lincoln from the dealership paid full price for the rear end. It took me a couple hours to yank it out of the car in the junk yard. My headers were a very used set of 351c/B302 conversion into a 65/66, got them for 30% of new price. My transmission was rebuilt before I bought it, I don't know what they were thinking, but I picked it up on ebay with a buy it now of under $1300. I agree, I will have a nice ride when its done, but my point is that anyone can do it, even on a tight budget.

I got a freind that races at a dirt track and he can find good deals for me. Ebay work good for me too. The people here have lots of parts too. There are deals all around, you just have to look for them and have the time.

Well, of course the engine is in. The driveshaft is about 4 or 5 inches shorter than the old one. I moved the engine back 1/2" so I am not exactly sure how much everything changed. I set my pinion angle as best I could get it. I used a foxbody tranny cross member and cut it in a few places to get it to fit tighter for the exhaust. The x-member will bolt in like it was intended in a fox body. To do this I fabbed up some mounting brackets that will weld to the frame rails. I originally welded them up but ended up cutting them up and just mocking it up loose. I will weld it all together soon. I need to make certain the engine and rear end are centered. I plan to take some measurements and center the rear end first. From there i was going to use a magnetic laser leveler to line up the drivetrain.
The previous picture showing the trans tunnel support sticking up through the hole in my floor. I had to cut that and cut small slits elsewhere and fold metal up to gain clearance.
The front suspension is still mocked up, even with the shims in the upper arms I have some ridiculous negative camber, maybe -6deg total.
I received my annual installment of my reenlistment bonus, so instead of maxing out my IRA I bought a 20 gal. aluminum fuel cell, some 1/2 fuel line, Aeromotive Fuel pump, and MagnaFlow 3" stainless exhaust kit (discounted). Got an offer for some cheap seats out of a Viper, I think they will go well with the Viper Tranny.
I'm still working a deal for an auto tuning EFI kit. I'm hoping to get some sponsorship, at least in free, or discounted parts. We'll see how that works out, otherwise I'm gonna have to tune the blow through.

I have been spending more time on the Falcon lately. I need it to haul my stuff to a swap meet next weekend. Did a quick Granada swap, much better.

It's a little slow right now. I'm prepping for a trip to California next week for work. The goal is to finish the car up sometime in April. So you'll be hearing from me soon.

Thanks everyone. The Viper seats, I got a good deal on them from a friend who had them in a 97 Cobra. When he found out I was putting a Viper T56 into my Mustang, and he was planning on selling his Cobra, hooked me up with the deal. He thought they would compliment the car well, I agree, and they are so damn comfy!
