EFI Swap

I have a 68 Mustang project, more of a custom than a classic, and I have to quick engine questions

1. My brother has a EFI 302 in a bronco he crashed, so I was contimpletating swapping that in for the stock Carb'd 289. Anyone know of anywhere to get help with this, any advice or even if its possible.

2. Someone mentioned just taking the EFI Components and putting them on the old 289 (intake, compy, fuel lines, etc. Possible?

Thanks for the help

Yes it is possible, this is quite and old thread but it came up when I searched the subject.
You can even use the stock harness but you will have to modify it if you wish to go with the 289 making it EFI. The old school stangs had a fireing order of 15426378 where the 5.0 EFI engines had a fireing order of 13726548. You can do one of two things to solve this.

1. Get a cam with the new fireing order for your old engine.

2. Rewire the injector harness.

I'm in process now of my build, I'm re-wireing the harness as my car is already cam'd and I see no need to replace my working set up.

You'll see about a 10-15% increase in fuel economy along with more torque and horse power from that swap You'll notice the water passages are different in size from your EFI Intake to the 289 Heads but it's no cause for concern, it will work just find the way it is. They do sell wiring harnesses just for that swap but there about 600 bux so I recommend getting a buddy handy with wiring if your not and a case of his favorite beer Hard solder all connections.. butt splices are no good in this situation, the EFI system is very sensitive to interference.

I think its possible to just put the wires that go the injectors in the correct order for the new application. Say put the wire that went to injector number one in injector number two so that injector number two fires first so that you get the right firing order from the injectors (and I don't literally mean that with one and two, it was just an example since I can't remember both firing orders off the top of my head) Am I wrong here? Since I plan to do this swap it would be helpful to know I'm not going to go screw up a once good 289 block.

do you ever heard about one of the biggest concerns efi is the cost. in all cases until now, to get efi you also had to change the engine and transmission. So we chose to add efi to an already running car with the 289 engine and factory 4-speed transmission.

?

If I understand what your saying correctly then your saying what we all said. Take the manifolds and computer and swap them in. See all above posts for confirmation of this.

Ill be glad to help you. What is your budget? Two companies make a stand alone wiring harness for about 450 that will make the install drastically less complicated. If you are planning on switching the t-5 into the stang as well, you will need a few extra parts.
If you use the stand alone harness, you can more or less just swap the engine out. Also, if you are not going to use any of the accessories, then you can pick up a conversion kit off of ffcars.com or from factory five if you go to the ffcars forum, i bet you can get the ac/power steering eliminator brackets and pulleys for free from one of the members.

The bad thing about this thread is that it is 3 years old.

The person that started the thread has never been on since asking the question.

Then who are we helping is the question?
