67 4 speed to T5 Conversion

I have a 5.0 with T5 five for donation. It came out of a recked 88 GT conv. I need to make it work on my 67. I've read that I may need a new flywheel? Not sure. Will 88 clutch fit 67 289 flywheel? I read something about balance being different. Can I just mod the 67 cross-member to take the T5, or do I actually have to buy a conversion one for $100+? Have cable that was on T5, I guess I need a pedal from a newer car? (push-pull thing) I have DS off 88, so I don't need to buy the yolk. Any answers would be appreaciated.
Thank you.
Mark

Well, now I know that the 5.0 clutch does not fit. But I read about the flywheel not working do to balance specs. Could I have everything balanced at the machine shop with the 5.0 flywheel on the 289? Then maybe I could use the 5.0 flywheel and clutch together on the 289, without buying a new flywheel? For now, my problem is working out a clutch linkage to work with the T5 cable.

Welcome to MM Forums...

ok, are you keeping you 289? or are you going to use the 5.0?

here is a great link to a 5.0 swap.

Keeping the 289. The only reason I want to put the T5 in is because the 4 speed needs rebuilt and the T5 was just rebuilt before someone smashed into the parked in front of our house. I will keep the 4 speed and someday plan to get it re-done. Although it still isn't the original. It came with the 3 speed. They original owner, the person I got it from, switched it to the 4. I thought of putting the 5.0 in it, but decided to hold onto it and keep the original engine in it.

Oh *hit...*u** .... D***...
I dropped one piston and the skirt broke. It slipped out of my hand, bounced off my foot, and onto the floor.
I see kits for doing a cable conversion or a hydraulic clutch, but I have the cable from the T5 car, and the pedal,
but I don't have the whole assembly, just the pedal and a couple other pieces. Maybe I can fabricate something for
the pedal assembly?

why dont you just use the adapter kit to add a T5 to your bell housing and clutch.

With this you can keep your pedal and z bar set up, & clutch. This Kit is only $395. and easy to install.

Link to how to do it. T-5 Swap

Already have the T5 yoke, then that adapter plate is the cause of needing to pay more money to have the machine shop shorten the drive shaft. I have a MIG, I can make the cross member work. I'm thinking I need to make an adapter to bolt onto the firewall for the pedal to work. I have most of the parts for the clutch pedal from the Fox car. I missed grabbing one main piece for everything to work together.

The T5 was just rebuilt about 1 week before someone decided to crash into the car. I would like the overdrive. I can do the 4 speed in spare time. Money is an issue for now. I started the engine with just a cam job, but it's ending up an overhaul. All my money is going there. Not money I was expecting to spend.
