429 swap in a 73 351 cleveland mach questions

hello all i am new to this site
wondering if anyone had some information to help me
i have a 73 mach1 with original 351c and 4speed toploader
i took it on a long trip and needless to say it didn't make it i cracked my block. the motor is shot. so looking for a new motor
i know of a guy that has a 429 2bolt main out of a 71 passenger car for 400 dollars, it has to be rebuilt but it is a complete motor
wondering what all i need to complete this swap. bellhousing? motor mounts? flywheel? clutch? clutch linkage? any help greatly appreciated or opinions to decide if this swap is even worth the trouble

Swapping small block to big block, you will need everything, headers, tranny, motor mounts, radiator maybe(probably), maybe front coil springs too. Sounds like a fun project though.

The 351C is not a small block, but I really have no idea what it would take.

I think they make kits for the swap.

If you are going swap in a big block go with the 460. The 429 only gets you 50-100 HP over a Boss 351C.

The 460 can be badass, depending on what you have to work with, remember there are not too many big block cars out there, and when you find em, it is alot of fun to see em working.

Regardless of the swap kit, the big block can impress you heavily depending on what cam, rods, heads, androcker arms you have.

429 I am unsure of I have an unrebuilt block on the garage floor, but ave ever done anyhing with it. The 460 was rebuilt,(that came with the car that was in pieces) so we obviously used that. There are many ways to go, an dI am no "expert" butI did build a few awesome rides , that i get compliments on. Ohand I enjoy them , and I am not dead.

Would like to help best I can spec wise, butlet me now if you need detailed info on stuff.

Bueno Suerte,

Dave!

Also it is VERY VERY important to install the 429 front springs with Airconditions for the heaviest duty, the regular springs will sag under the weight of the larger engine.

I have done the bigblock swap, let me know of any questions you have.

Big block are fine, just don't think a stock big block is going to make your car fast. Many of them were dogs. We all know you can make them fast, but most of them you have to make them fast.

Agreed when i found this project in a pile of parts, it came with an extremely HUGE cam, heavy duty rods, 1.7 aluminum roller rocker arms DOVE-A and DOVE-C heads ( I used the Dove-A heads), hooker racing headers, and now it is fast.

I also got a bunch of the stock parts and after comparing them, yeah no stock parts. Also ended up with drag oil pans i did not use plus another big block which is still on the floor of the garage and needs rebuilding.

car is barely streetable, but I can be heard for 1/2 a mile if I hit the gas.

Still need a detroit locker as I have a one tire fire, and its fun to keep being able to making it better, and I haveall the time I want to do it.

My Dad and I built that car and he passed away from cancer last Feb, he was too scared of it, he only drove it once, and left an 150 burnout in the driveway,(which is why he only drove it one mor3e time...really slow)

anyway not trying to give you a huge story on my stuff, but the performance parts will make a HUGE difference.

to do the swap you must massage the engine compartment. it will fit but with some problems. the most serious thing you have to do is the fron suspension. you need to put heavy duty or tubular parts on. you will need to find a new bellhousing for sure. also brakes need to be redone, due to the new weight in the front. i think that is all that needes to be dano though. could be wrong.
best of luck

Keith

Oh I almost forgot you will need new motor mountswelded in. And to agree with Katen, brakes are important, when we reassembled the car we looked up the stock info for a 429cj Mustang, and got an aftermarket kit with decent looking calipers.

If you over do it, you will have low brake pressure, I havent really tried to slow down too rapidly, cuz I know its not like new car brakes.
