Engine Bay Painting Question
I have my engine out of the 73 Mach 1 and getting rebuilt. I will be rewiring the car later, but in the mean time I want to go through and repaint the engine compartment.
The car will not be a show car and I am doing this to just clean it up and make sure that rust is not developing (the car is from New Hampshire and the last owner did not store it well) On a small side section, I started using a wire brush drill attachment to scrap off there paint and some stuck on grease/dirt. There was some discoloration in spots, but no rust holes or disinigration, when I got down to the metal. What is my best course of action? I had planned on: 1. Wire brushing 2. Rust Reformer coat to take care rust/discoloration I could not scape to metal , then sanding (1000 grit) 3. Epoxy Primer, then sanding (1000 grit) 4. Black enamel, then sanding (1500 grit) 5. High gloss clear coat Is this a good plan? Any advice? Space is a limiting factor and I have left the transmission and steering in place. Thanks, -Scott |

Sounds like a good plan but are you going for a show quality finish, if not the 1000/1500 sandpaper is a bit overboard.
