Replacement Radiator

I just bought a 68 289 2V coupe that is a driver but needs a new radiator. I bought this car in mind with replacing the entire drivetrain with a late model fuel injected motor out of 89 to 93. Does anyone know of a radiator I can put in now that will also work with the future drivetrain? Would hate to have to replace the radiator twice.

The foxbody radiator will fit but you will have to make your own mounts. I run one in both of my 66 Mustangs and the Falcon.

What about if I used a good HiPo aluminum radiator that is meant for my car, would that also work for the 5.0 drivetrain? I know for my 289 the upper and lower hoses are both on the same side of the radiator but for the 5.0 water pump, not sure if they are the same. I know the upper hose on the 5.0 is on the same side as my 289 but not sure about the bottom.

Swap the water pump and pulleys (Use a 70 crank pulley because it was 4 bolt)

Or just use a 1970 Mustang radiator with the 5.0 serpentine setup.

Or, just use a bigger aluminum radiator for a foxbody. The foxbody radiator is a crossflow, it's better.

So I can swap the 289 water pump for a reverse flow 5.0 water pump and convert the 289 pulley system to a serpintine belt system? What about the radiator fan? Can I go with an electric fan and remove the engine driven fan all together or should I use a clutch driven fan? Thanks for helping out and providing answers...this is my first classic Mustang.

You can swap the water pump and accessories to serpentine setup. The serpentine setup uses a reverse flow water pump. The 1970 water pump is regular rotation but the inlet is on the other side of the engine, looks like the 5.0 water pump but different rotation. Either will work with the 5.0 radiator.
Just don't try to use the serpentine pulleys on the 70 pump nor the V-belt setup on a 5.0 water pump.
Fan, go with an electric, but any and all will work.

I thought you were going to swap everything from a donor car, engine/transmission/radiator. If that was the case just move everything over.

Thanks for the detailed information. I don't have a donor car yet so I will have to piece this together but I think I am going to go with the 5.0 setup.
