1968 coupe

hello everyone hopefully someone can help me with this. A few months ago my car stopped starting by key. I put the key in turn it to acc and lights come on, but when i turn it to start light go out and come back on when it goes back to acc. the only way i can start the car is by turning the key to acc and then jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver which (to anyone that doesnt know what im doing) looks like im stealing my car lol. I have changed the solenoid which did nothing. i checked battery terminals. i removed the inside of the ignition switch, didnt know what to do, and put it back in. lol. any help or if anyone had similar problem please let me know.

Sounds like you have a Automatic car, If so I would check your neutral safety switch. The easy way first is while holding the key to the start position and move the shifter to neutral.

It could have gone bad. It is to keep you from starting your can when it is not in park or neutral.

If that does not work, Lets follow the power from the switch. It is the Red wire with blue stripe.

The first plug is 4" after the key switch. The 2nd plug is at the firewall. then the solenoid.

Just use a test light while try to start it. This will also tell were the power stops at.

There is a plug you can unplug and check at each point. and see if the power is there.

no need to bare any wires alone the way. you are following the red wire with a blue stripe from the key switch.

ok i followed it and didnt see any... i looked under the hood on the firewall next to the master cylinder, there were like 2 sets of wires coming out 2 black wires that were cut and looked like they were spliced together at some point? and 2 other wires that went into a connection that went to 4 wires i believe. 1 went to a plug that went into the engine, 1 that i believe went to the coil, and one that had an eye hook and was just chillin on my intake... lol. someones obviously been into it. also i looked at the trans to check out the nss and i couldnt find the wire part of it... i took some pics from what i was expecting it looks like nothings there and i thought there was supposed to be wires that led to the firewall where i mentioned earlier.

i was expecting from what ive read it was going to be where that cover is that looks like a nipple. i took pics of both sides. the code said c6...... which if i looked everything up right is a 66 and it came out of a fullsize. but yea thanks for the help so far.
