69fastback transformation thread

Well, as many of you know, I'm just started the process of my new engine build. It's also going to require me to make some changes to the car so everything will hold up. I hope to have the car back on the road by February, or March, so this is going to take a little time. I began the long process today.

Here was the last run today, just before I pulled it in the shop, and began the removal.

Here is the nasty engine bay. It looks worse than normal because I've been working on it a lot lately, trying to figure out what's wrong with it.

And the nasty, greasy, subject

So now the work begins. When it goes back together, I expect it to actually look good enough, I will enjoy opening the hood, and it should run a little better too

Looks ok to me (Engine bay). You just need to do some touching up as far as cleaning. Then maybe organize your wires better. They look all nimbly bimbly.

I'm sure you will figure it out with the new combo!!! Can't wait for updates.

Looks mighty good to me.
Since you are getting away from "Stock" power, why not modernized your suspension while the engine bay is clear?

I'm not too interested in turning. The 90/10s that are on it do a pretty good job on the strip. I will probably upgrade to a true coilover setup one of these days, but I'm not too worried about it right now.

To me that engine bay looks CLEAN. I'm extremely embarrassed to pop the hood on my '71 demon. There's shit everywhere under there!

You don't normally run without an air cleaner housing and filter, do you? I hope that was just for the video. Anyway, love your car. Can't wait to see what it does when completed.

A little progress update. The heads and intake are still at the shop, having some work done. I should have them back this month. The fuel pump, relay, and filter are mounted, and fuel line is ran to the inner fender. We modified my sending unit for me, so it has a 1/2" pickup tube now.

The starter solenoid, and voltage regulator have been moved to clean up the wiring some, and the MSD box will be mounted in the car.

There is still some cleaning up to be done under the hood, but we are going to wait until I get my engine done, and in the hole, so we can see what we need and don't need.

I'm tired of messing with the Z bar, so I bought a hydraulic throwout bearing, to get rid of that mess. A pedal stop is going to have to be fabricated, and I have to take some measurements with the block, and bellhousing, so again, I have to wait to get my engine to get this done. I will no longer have a clutch fork, or linkage system

I've got all my driveshaft, and yoke stuff from Strange, but I need the engine in to take the measurements so I can have it cut to the right length.

So really I'm stuck here until I get my shortblock, which could be March or April. Once it gets here, there will be quite a bit of work left to get it going. For now, I have a shelf full of parts, and I'm waiting on a lot of parts...

Awesome, for some reason I was under the impression you had a c4 behind windsor.

I have tossed around the idea of putting a C4 in it, but I'm not ready to make that leap yet. That's just another step closer to it being a race car, and not a street car, but a C4 on the brake sure would be good for the track

Can't wait to see how it runs for you.

What throw out bearing are you using ?

You have a link to what set up you are using?

I just bought the McLeod universal kit for the toploader. It doesn't look like it will be a big deal to install. It gives some measurements to take between the pressure plate, and end of the bellhousing, and from the tip of the shaft, to the transmission case....or something like that. It it's not within a specified limit, I have to send it back to McLeod to have a different length piston put in it. The pedal stop shouldn't be a big deal. I have a few ideas on how to do it, based on what I've seen other people do.

This is the kit. It came with the master cylinder, 2 different reservoirs to choose from, hoses, clamps, and all that stuff.

McLeod 13045

I just hope I'm not creating more problems than I'm fixing by going with this. If it gives me many problems, I'll probably give into the C4

Change of plans on the fuel tank. I got a good deal of one that has already been sumped, so I'm ditching the modified pick up tube, and putting this in.

I got my intake, and heads back from Lynn Morris. They turned out doing well on his flow bench when he was done, but I forgot to get my paperwork when I left...oops. I'll pick them up the next time I'm up his way.

He didn't do much to my intake. He said it had already had a bunch of work done to it, so he just cleaned it up a little, and matched it a little better. That makes the $100 I gave for the intake look real good .

He also said the heads were in great shape. They had a ton of carbon build up, but he cleaned them up, did some port work, some bowl blending, some work to the chambers, and a good valve job on them. He said he just did a set just like mine, that flowed almost exactly the same, and they went on a 347. At 11:1, with a solid roller, it made 620 hp, so these should do well on my 408 at 10.5:1. The springs are Pac springs.
