need help with my 73 Hardtop
hey guys
im 18 and i really want a mustang, ive been crazy about them for a whle now. but as far as my aspirations go, i want to modify it, not restore it. a bit about the mustang im looking at: sleek black 73 hardtop mustang 302w v2 left hand drive interior in original condition..which means its old and crappy. what i want to do it: exterior: replace wheels, backlights, headlights, and the mustang horse with a brand new original replace all windows (with tinted), front grill, front bumper, back bumper, sideskirts with something different, so i can put on my own look Power windows, airbags, remote lock, the whole 8 yards. Yeah I said 8, I don't want to change the last, the body (Y) leave the rest as is I'm not one of those consevation types, I don't mind modding it till it looks like its about to eat you. I don't see many 73 models anywhere, and none on this site. Why? I think they lok sexy Btw I hate the old grill thing at the front, I want thegrill to look like the 2008 mustang model, any way to do that? interior: I'm in autralia, I need a right hand drive This cars a LHD. A conversions needed =/ It has the classic black and tan leather stichched dash and seats, but I'm going to replace that with a newer seats, that go with the theme of red and black. I want this baby to look like a flaming horse. That's said, black leather with red stictcing, this is going to cost me a fortune to do. But hey, I think its worth it ![]() Then obviously, ince I'm 18, I gotta add the good stuff: soft red neons peeking out from underneath the seats and doors, massive speaker sysem with dual 15" subs etc.. *insert evil laugh here* Under the hood: This is one department I need the most help in I've got an old 302 windsor v2 in here, 8cyl carburetor. legally I can't drive above a v6 no turbo or super till i get my full licence, around when I'm 21 So I can't drive this baby for a few years, but it gives me time to do the conversion without having to sell a few body parts. Should I reco the engine? Or should I overhaul it to something better? What's the price range for both options? Does it matter what engine to put in, as i will be putting in a new suspention kit and what not. on a sidenote: I have been offered a 415hp v6 (no turbo or super) 79 fastback for 15,000 from a family friend. I'm getting the 73 for 10,000. Should I buy both and put the v6 in here? Because I don't like the look of the fastback. Also a 415 v6 no turboor super sound pretty shifty.. :| I want be VERY careful here because I'm planning to take a loan here and put myself out on a limb, against my parents wishes, so would love it if you helped me out here ![]() Thanks Last edited by skitzophrenia; November 8th, 2010 at 07:31 PM. Welcome to MM Forums...
You dont see a lot of the 1971 to 1973 coupe on here is because, They dont make a lot of the parts for them, cost a lot more to restore. They dont have the resale value of other 1965 to 68 coupes. The 1965 to 68 coupes are cheap to restore, and easy sale. Next, what is your budget? you have 3 years to build this car. Let take the first month and figuar out what you want in it.. Motor If you are like most of us, more is better. The 1971 to 73 car hold a 460 no problem. They are cheap to get and rebuild. The motor I like is the 351W you can make it into almost anything, a lot lighter that the big block cost more to build. I stay away from the little motors like the 302. You can build a 351W for the same price. V6 I would stay away from, it reminds me of the kids try to get thier ricer running fast, and the 71-73 is the heaviest Mustang Made. The Australia dollar is about the same value as US Dollar. Im trying to see why a 1973 coupe is worth 10,000... I have 2 here in the states for $1000 each 1 of them has a 351C and a C6 auto. I would look around more for a car less than a 10k one that needs restored with a 302. |

Definitley agree ^. Mustangone knows his stuff and whenever I need a question answered he is there very quick. Make sure you plan out what you want to do and budget your time and money. Dont spend all your money on the exterior, when you run out of money and you still have an old worn out engine. Put up some pics, take your time, and learn all you can in the process.

Thank you mustangone
![]() I'm still at that planning stage, I'm not hurry I wanna get it all writ first There are them here for 1grand? Sheiiizzzenhooover. Glad I posted here then, because all I really want is a good base to build upon. I think the price here is higher because there's only a very few imported, and no spares whatso ever Its also in good condition, driveable, but not pristine showcase. The 351 windsor, what do you mean I can make it into almost anything? I want it to be reasonably powerful, but not the overkill 1000hp v8 or something What sort of restrictions do I have with engines? Since I want to drive it everywhere, I even considered v-tech..but slapped myself for that. I don't have a set budget, as it all depends on how far I want to take it. Other than the occasional clothes shopping, and clubbing, I have nothing else to spend my money on So If it goes well, I'm thinking 30-35? @ rest Thank you all, I will keep updating here until I have formed a plan and gotten ready for this project, then I will make a new thread keeping you guys updated with the work of my build (L) |

you should build an ORIGINAL Eleanor clone, a yellow 73 from the original gone in 60 seconds. I love the scene when he jumps the railroad tracks and lands so hard that the frame bends.
