1966 Stock Shifter and AOD Transmission Compatible?

I have a '66 coupe with a 3 speed w/ overdrive "AOD" transmission. Currently the car has a B&M aftermarket type shifter, but I would like to install a stock shifter that I picked up. With the AOD tranny, you shift from 1st into second, the tranny then automatically shifts into 3rd, and then you shift again up into overdrive - So you need to shift twice in order to reach overdrive, then the next shift up would be into neutral. It seems like the stock shift assembly only allows for 1 shift before neutral??? Is this correct??? Anyway, is it possible to use the stock shifter from 1966 on an AOD transmission. The reason I want to use the stock shifter is because I would like to put the stock full length console in, and the B&M shifter won't fit under the console. Any help appreciated. Anyone gone through this before or know if possible? Other shifter options to use with AOD and Stock console?

Thanks!

Thanks,

I've read something about getting the proper adjustments on the TV cable. Will I need to make any adjustments to it since the cable is already in the car hooked up to the throttle. If I'm correct, I think I only need to re-connect the shift cable to the new shifter? Right now I have the TV cable coming off the top of the shift lever on the transmission, and the shift cable/rod coming off the bottom of the shift lever. Is this the correct orientation that I'll need to use for the stock shifter install?

Thanks
