66 mustang project

Original post:

Hey guys, its been a while since i've been active on the site. I have to revisit because i need some opinions on how to fix my brake lights. (I finally go my license yesterday and i was going to drive to school today however something is wrong with the brake lights.) My dad and i have been practicing driving(its a 3 speed manual) and during our practice drives we are pretty sure that the brake lights were working. However now they're not. My dad thought looking at the fuse box might solve the problem. The only issue with that is the fuse box is missing. When we bought the car, the guy we bought it from metioned some electrical work had been done but we didnt think to check it over too much. Now we think that who ever did the electerical work did a shoty job. And we're not sure what to do. We already changed the bulbs so we know thats not the problem. Also my blinkers and lights work. So its just the brake lights that are the problem.

I would greatly appreciate your opinions, comments and suggestions. Thanks in advance and I can't wait to hear from you guy .

Today :

Ok so we thought we had the brake lights fixed however we were wrong. While i was driving earlier today my mom noticed my brake lights and turn signals weren't working(she was following me without my knowledge when i was for the first time by myself for more than two blocks.)

so my dad gets home and he checks the fuses and for some reason some of the fuses arent working. We're assuming that somewhere the connection from the wires is being lost. The wires have juice in them....we tested them. And whats even more wierd the lights work(the ones you turn on at night)

The other problem is that the main pulley on the cam is broken. Its in two pieces. We dont know how this happenedand i wasnt experiencing many difficulties while driving. So how do we go about fixing this pulley. My dad is worried that if we un bolt the part that remains on the cam will mess up the timing in the motor. What do you guys think?

Can't wait to hear you guy's opinions..........

1. Brake lights,

First I would check the brake light switch on the brake pedal, The power starts at the headlight swith not the fuse box. Take a test light to the green wire on the brake switch. It will have power all the time on one side. Then go to the other side when the pedal is pressed.

Now if the works check here next, at the steering colum the is 2 plugs the little one with the green w/orange stripe & orange w/green stripe these are the one that light up when the brake lights in the rear are on & turn signales are on. If it does not work here your turn signal switch needs to berplaced. if it does work look at the connectors at the tail light housings.

2. Pully

The top pully is connected to the water pump and can be remove easyly after the fan is removed. The bottem Pully is the easiest to replace. it is connected to the crank pully. You can replace ether pully with o affect to your timing.

The only thing connected to the cam is the timing chain and it is behind the water pump under the timing chain cover and you can not see it. If this came lose the motor would not run.

Good Luck Let me know if I can help more.

Yeah sounds like the brake light switch by pedal. Follow the pedal up and you should see a small piston touching the pedal. Either its bad or needs to be adjusted.

sorry for the wierd angles
so i just put tape on the spring so it cant touch the switch and short the circuit.
