Especially on a vert. You have less stiffness already due to lack of a roof. If you don't plan on putting any real power into it it's no biggie but if you are gonna run it at a track you should. The car will twist with a few good hard launches with stickies

These cars AlWAYS benefit from SFCs, regardless of power output. Not only will it drive better, but it will help keep the doors and panels from sagging, and save the torque boxes.

I know yours is older, but I believe from 99 on, verts came with them standard.. You can always upgrade to full length though.

Old ones did not. They need them.

Old ones had a little bit of extra reinforcement in the toe board (can't remember the exact place/name of the body part, so someone jump in and correct me here) but that was it. And like 69Fastback said, ALL of these old cars can and will benefit from them. I would consider them a must on any regularly driven car (that someone isn't trying to keep all original anyways).

I would recommend TinMan. They seem to have a pretty decent set up and were better priced than most of the competition last time I looked.

can someone post a link for these? i have a 66 and just replaced the rear end and front end. I figure i should do anything that will make the car handle better right now. I am also going to research front and rear shocks.

Check into KYB for shocks. Seems like a lot of people go to them for their classics.

We use Total Control and Global West connectors at the shop. They offer an optional center X-bar on the Total Control ones. If I'm not mistaken you can buy factory repro front "torque-boxes" which reinforce the toe-boards, left and right. Certain models had them factory on both sides, some only on one? Not positive. Verts might already have them both, but it could vary on the engine package the car came with. I do know that most all-out performance guys install front torque boxes on both sides of a track car if tit didn't already have both, as well as the subframe connectors and x-bar. Verts especially can use all the reinforcement you can give them.
I'll have to look into the Tin Man's as well. Sounds like they have a following. Last edited by bwkelley76; January 21st, 2011 at 12:13 AM. |
