parking brake spring

I am helping someone get a 66 on the road and am stuck with the emergency brake spring. They have a wrecked 65 and a restored 66 and when I got there neither had the parking brake but I found the equalizer etc in a pile of parts. I have everything hooked up except for the spring that should connect somewhere near the transmission. Its a long spring, almost a foot.

Im not sure if it goes from the equalizer to the back of the car or towards the front. In either direction I cannot find anything that it may attach to on the other end (one end is on the equalizer)

Any ideas?
