hmm I could use some help...

I decided to take off the muffler to get a deeper sound/ rumball and I sure got that, after about 20 minutes of driving it started to run funny.. stalling and stuff.

I have a 1978 coupe with a 302 5 speed.
anything I could do to make it run better without the muffler... I sure like the new sound

Re: hmm I could use some help...

put the muffler back on for now. get a catback system.. it will give you a decent sound. as for the wiring diagram you can find it here :

I just had to put mufflers on my car, the cops didn't think the sounds was as cool as I thought it was. Be careful running like that.

I want to get dumps for my car but I found out today that I can't because there is an ordnance against them here :/ That would give you the sound whenever you want at the flip of a switch.

I had some a cherry bomb on mine with a little deflector. I had the y-pipe and a cherry bomb, the exhaust stopped before the axle it sounded freakin sweet! and it ran like a champ. well til the brand new engine went Boom!

There is always the glasspack, which is still considered a muffler? In some places it is I believe.

when you dont have a muffler you run the chance of sucking cold air into your manifold and it will warp your valves 100% of the time when you run strait manifolds. and you need back pressure in your exhaust or the valves will stay open longer and you run the chance of a valve smacking a piston you dont want that its no fun trust me.

Mufflers are a good thing, but I have no back pressure on my harley and the valves are good on it. I know it you have really short pipes or no pipes, l that can happen, but not having a muffler will do it.
