'68 c4 upgrade to AOD

I have been thinking about upgrading my '68 C4 tranny to a newer AOD to get better fuel economy. I would need to do this on a very low budget but have no idea where to start. I'm not a mechanic but I'm a decent handyman. Is this a job anyone can tackle?

Welcome to MM Forums...

You need a transmission crossmember for a AOD and a shifter

You can easily source one from a 80's and up mustang or other Ford V8 RWD car. The trans crossmember is an aftermarket piece, there are several retailers carrying this part. As for the shifter, I don't know.
