1967 Mustang SuperSnake build 2

I thought you all might like to follow my second project. SVT Supersnake is almost finished and will be on the road soon. I will continue to update that thread as the car progresses with videos, more pictures etc.

Anyway, the opportunity came up last week for me to purchase Supersnake 069 that was being built by Unique Performance and i decided to buy it. This is probably one of the nicer cars i have seen from that particular company. The welds are great and the body kit was installed correctly by fitting the glass to the metal, instead of using filler to make the bodykit appear to fit correctly.
Here is a picture of the car at the auction back in 08. I will update pictures when the car arrives and i can get some good shots of the body kit, floorboards, underside, etc. Kind of ironic that i am from B'ham, Alabama and the person that originally ordered the car is a Doctor here in town. Poor guy probably lost a whole bunch of money on this car.

Anyway, here she is

And here is another car that i purchased last week that was being built by unique performance. Unfortunately, the bodywork was not completed on this car, but it did come with around 30,000 worth of parts that i need. I am going to strip this car of the parts i need and then offer it for sale in the very near future as a shell. I think this "donor" car will be better off served being completed by someone who wants to do a budget build with stock suspension. Ill post more photos of it as well once it arrives. It could be worse or better than i think. However, the shop i bought it from has indicated that the paint is crap.

Parts that are coming off the donor for SS069:

TCP coilover front suspension, TCP Pushrod rear suspension, Fab 9 housing with detroit locker, 28 spline axles, and 3.80 gears(assembled and ready to go), Shelby signature Baer brakes-front and rear, forged front spindles, TCP Power steering rack, TCP subframe connectors, TCP Shock tower bracing and monte carlo bar, PSE GT-40 wheels and brand new tires, Old Air Products AC system with compressor, overhead console, rear glass, door glass and vent windows, regulators, etc., window molding, carpet, Polished Stainless steel steering column, dash pad, and a few other small items.

Details:

I have decided to use a 351W to 427W stroker with a TKO 600 5 speed transmission. I will decide whether i go with stack injection or supercharged at a later date.
Color: Im going to do the inverse of the eleanor colors, so it will be black with pepper gray stripes.
Example:

I have heard a lot of bad stories about a TKO600, I mean you are going all out wouldn't you rather have the extra strength, and overdrive of a T-56. Just a suggestion, good luck with the build, it sounds like it is going to be amazing.

i have used TKO 600 transmissions in several cars producing well over 500hp. No issues what so ever. They are solid transmissions and hold their own. Not sure where you heard the rumors, but tkos are top of the line. Have you ever used one? Have you had one fail? Do you know the people personally that said bad things about the TKO transmissions?

Again, please delete this thread if it is going to be in the projects section. I just really dont see the reason for me to post a build if it is going to be put in a section that doesnt even have a link off the main page.

Thanks

I used to share your opinion of the project section, but I've grown to like it. I do wish they would do more to promote it though.

No I haven't had one fail, but I do personally know someone has gone through a few of them. He is quite a reliable source from what I can consider. Besides being a Engineer for Ford Motor Car, he was my neighbor growing up, a religious bracket racer for over 20yrs, and well know guy in the area. His cars run extremely well.

Other than his two fox bodies he has several old Mopars all of which are in pristine condition. Has done work on my own personal vehicles along with several others that I know.

As far as deleting your thread, if that is your wish then I can manage that request. Just let me know for sure. You have a real nice build coming along and I was looking forward to seeing pics of the finished product. It would be shame for some of us to miss out. Either way it's your call. Just PM me, or post back in here requesting to delete it. Thanks, and good luck with the build...

Ok, well this will be my 4th one to use. From my personal experience, they are outstanding transmissions. Most ever cobra replica with a big block has a Tremec tko500 or 600 in it.

the project section does have a link off the main page. and why would you rather the thread stay here when only a handful of people will see it, whereas many many more will see it in the project section?

Because this is the classics section and it's a classic build. Over 30,000 views on the other build, i think plenty of people see it here. I dont really feel like arguing about it though. I prefer it to be in the classics section, plain and simple.

I do like that you are using a real engine for this one . Are you going to be using a stock production block, or going with something like a Dart?

I am still not a fan of the body kits, or anything Eleanor related though. Just my opinion, but hey, you're the one building the car, and it's your money for sure. From what I see in the other thread, I'm sure the car will turn out nice.

As for the projects section. Just title you're thread as a transformation, instead of a build, and it will stay here....lol At least that's the way it seems with mine, because they never tried to move it.

I know two different people that have problems with TKO600s not shifting under high RPM. I don't know of any hard failures, but there are some people that complain about their shifting.

Well, the parts car arrived and i have already started to strip it down and put the parts i dont need on ebay. It had a series 7 MSD box and coil, new white gauges, leather center console, B&M shifter, etc. They are all on ebay if anybody is interested. Even thought the parts were never used, they were installed, so i have them at about half price. As soon as i get the parts cars stripped, i will register it and then it will be for sale. The body is pretty good in the rear, but the front is pretty good and terrible. Somebody was using bondo to try to shape the parts instead of shaping the parts and then using fiberglass in the places that need to be built up. It will need to be stripped and completely reworked.

I put my 67 GT500 hood on the car just to see what it would look like. This is the hood I plan on using on SS069. THe supersnake and eleanor hood will be for sale.

Oh, and one more update, Ive changed my mind on the 427Windsor. I just cant justify the price of a carbed pushrod motor, when i can use a new 5.0 Coyote motor and 6 speed transmission for the same price.
The TCP front coilover suspension, TCP forged Spindles, TCP steering, and Shelby Brakes will be for sale as soon as i have a chance to remove them from the car.

Parts car with supersnake hood

Very happy to see you go with the Coyote motor. The wiring set up is a lot easier that the last one you did.

You just have to a add power and switch.

So you can use the factory wiring still and be done with the wiring in 2 hours.

Two hours? Man, that would be a dream come true. Like i said, for the cost, i just cant justify going with the 351 stroker. The parts have really become expensive for those motors. Just a nice serpentine belt system will cost you a bundle.
Anyway, SS069 is set to arrive tomorrow at my body shop. I told them the plans and they are going to blast and sand the body first to remove all of the green self etching primer and the surface rust.
I need to see the TCP front coilover suspension, TCP power Steering, and flaming river rack and wheel before i can order the TCI front end. Anybody interested? The parts are all new. Ill post pictures once i pull them off.
